Lorenz and Marie Augsburger

Lorenz and Marie Augsburger
Reverse of photo
Closeup of Lorenz & Marie Augsburger

This is a very interesting cabinet card. It belongs to
George Sparks who is the great grandson of Lorenz
and Marie (Yankee) Augsburger.

The Augsburgers were married in Europe, yet this wedding photo
bears the imprint of a Baltimore studio,
Ferdinand Wagner & Son of 63 West Baltimore Street.

It is suspected that this is a reprint from a European studio.
Because the photo is so sharp it suggests that it may
have been made from an original negative.

Another possibility, is that it was a re-creation of the event
made in the Baltimore studio. The striking setting
of an open iron gate is not one that I have seen before.

The back of the photo contains some clues as well.
There are three inscriptions:

1. In German: "Zum gedenken von ... "
This means in memory or thanks from. The remainder
has been erased from the card.
2. Mirs. L. Augsburger, 223 Lanvale Street
... lady clk. Wiessner's Brewery.
Part of this is illegible due to damage from tape but it
provides a known address and suggests that Lorenz or Marie may
have been employed at Wiessners.
3. Mrs. Augsburger, 1632 N. Port Street.
16/20 as it is of ...
Another residential address and partial instructions
for copying the image.
