David Bennett

David Bennett had this cabinet card made by the Broadway Photographic Art Studio at 157 South Broadway.
This studio was owned by Louis Walzl. It was located at this address from roughly 1880 to 1884.

David Bennett was a Union veteran of the Civil War. He lost his left arm in a battle near Deep Bottom, Virginia (north of Richmond).
Unfortunately, he had been left-handed but he was able to overcome his disability
and served as a letter carrier with the Baltimore post-office for nearly fifty years.

Bennet lived in Baltimore City at the following addresses: (1) South Ann Street (2) East Baltimore Street
and (3) 22nd Street. He married at age 27 and was the father of nine children,
six of whom survived to maturity. His photo is submitted by his grand-daughter, Shirley Bollinger.
