Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos

Robert Clark and Preacher Lucas

These two photos are displayed together because they were found in a red leather photo album that was purchased in a second hand shop on the Eastern Shore. Both are tin type photos.

The picture on the left is the first in the album. The inscription says, "Robert Clark, Magdalene Clark, Townsend, Mowbray's brother." Perhaps this means Robert was husband of Magdalena Townsend. Either Robert or Magdalene was brother to Mowbray?

The second photo in this album is that of Preacher Lucas, a young man who is standing in front of a beachfront backdrop. None of the other photos in this album are identified. They are all tin types. There are also a number of "Little Bible Lesson Pictures" which date from 1898 and 1899.
