This is a picture of Naomi Weatherby Cowen Cole and her daughter Emma Jane Cole (born 13 November 1900 )  taken on 30 March 1902 in an unknown Baltimore studio.

There is a bit of a story to this picture ... which E. Isabel Cole Williams told to her family sometime before 1979.

It seems several of the older children were having pictures done that day. Before they left the studio the photographer asked Mrs. Cole if she would like a picture of her and the littlest one, Emma who was the twin sister of Lucinda M. Cole (later Lawhon). Emma was always rather frail ... well, her mother relented to having the picture taken. The next day - 31 March 1902, Emma Jane Cole passed away (just 'faded away' is how the story is always related, things being as they were then, who knows why ). Of course, the family was always happy to have that picture of little Emma Jane.
