This photo is somewhat out of keeping with others that
have been published on Baltimore City 19th-Century Photos.
Not that these folks didn't live in Baltimore. They
lived at
527 North Streeper Street, where this picture was made.
The main difference here, is this is a relatively early
example of
a snapshot ... an image not made in a studio or by a professional.
"Small cameras" for personal use were available as
early as the 1880s
but did not achieve commercial success until decades later.
