Elizabeth Barton Farley

Elizabeth Barton was the daughter of Daniel Barton. She married Lawshe Farley of Pennsylvania.
Of their three children, only two lived to adulthood: James and Bessie. The latter never married.

Daniel Barton was born and raised in Baltimore but moved to North Carolina to work
in the gold mines of Montgomery and Randolph Counties. Daniel fought for the Confederacy,
was captured and imprisoned at Hart's Island in New York Harbor.
After the war he returned to Baltimore where he was a miller. Eight years later he returned to North Carolina.
Daniel's siblings, all of whom resided in Baltimore, included Lazarus Barton,
Mary Barton, Esau Barton and Laura Susannah Barton who married George W. Lewis.

This cabinet card was made in the David Wilkes Studio. This British-born photographer
maintained his shop at 211 East Baltimore Street from 1887 until 1896 and then again
at the same location from 1898 until the Batlimore Fire in 1904. In the year 1897,
he maintained his shop at 211 and 213 East Baltimore Street.
