In December 1877, the Baltimore Sun reported that Edward F. McGinnis
was appointed inspector of boilers for the second district of Baltimore City by
Governor Carroll, a position which earned $1500 annually. McGinnis
had replaced his brother-in-law John J. McWilliams who had recently died.
McGinnis had held the position several years earlier when he
had been appointed by Governor Groome. Mr. McGinnis was a machinist and enigineer
and had been a chief engineer in the Navy.  He had also served as a supervisor during the
construction of the Jones Falls retaining walls.

Edward F. McGinnis passed away on 15 July 1900
at age 64 years leaving a widow Rose. He had lived at
1120 East Fayette Street. A requiem mass was
celebrated at St. Vincent's Church.
