Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos

Walter B. and Wilson Stehl

Walter B. Stehl, age 19
Wilson Stehl, age 13

These photos have the distinction of probably traveling
further than any others on this site. Mike Brill, the submitter
of these images found them on e-Bay. He purchased them
from Matt Hovious, a collector and genealogist in Barcelona, Spain!

Walter B. Stehl was 19 when the Russell Studio created this
cabinet card image of him in Baltimore. Wilson Stehl was age 13,
probably a younger brother.

A search of the 1880 U.S. Census in Maryland yielded a match for
Walter B. Stell, 5-year old son of Justus V. and Eliza A. Stell. The senior
Stell was a druggist from Prussia. His wife was British. Wilson Stehl
is not enumerated in this household, but he would not have been
born until 1881. The family business was at 240 North Gay
Street from 1862 until atleast the mid-1880s. See Nancy Bramucci's
Medical Care in the City of Baltimore

To view other photos found with the Stehl collection,
visit Mrs. J. L. Moon and unidentified CDV.

Mike is making both of these images available to anyone who can prove
a relationship to them ... and hopefully maybe provide what no
doubt will be an interesting explanation of their travels.
