In the Name of God Amen, I John Fortune of Albermarle County being sick & week, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make this may last will and testament as followith (To Wit). First I bequeath to my sons, Williams Fortune, Williamson Fortune and Richard Fortune all my land to be divided amongst them equally and to be be divided so that my son William have the place whereon he now lives in his part or lott, and that my son Williamson have his part joining my son William's between that & the place I now live on. And that my son Richard have in his part the house that I now live in with the plantation about it, which land so divided to be theri property forever and at their disposal. Item I also bequeath to my son William Fortune two Negroes (viz) Charles & Betty, they and their future increase to be his property forever & at his disposal. Item, I also bequeath to my son Williamson Fortune two negroes (viz) Jane & Nicey they & their furture increase to be his property forever & at his disposal. Item, I also bequeath to my son Richard Fortune two negroes (viz) Nan & Eleanor, they & their future increase, to be his property forever and at his disposal. I bequeath to my son Thomas Fortune two negroes (viz) Amey & James they & their future increase to be his property forever and at this disposal. Item, I bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Burk three negroes (viz) Mitiller, Kate & old Judith they & their future increase to be her property forever and at her disposal. Item, I bequeath to my grandson John Fitzpatrick (son of Alex Fitzpatrick dec'd), ten pounds current money of Virginia to be his property forever and at his disposal. Item, I bequeath to my grandchildren the heirs of my daughter Lucey Winn, dec'd, each twenty shillings current money of Virginia to be their property forever and at their disposal. Item, I bequeath to Rebecca Henderson, Widow of William Henderson dec'd, twenty pounds current money of Virginia to be . . . . to my grandsons Benjamin Fortune & John Fortune, sons of Benjamin Fortune dec'd, each ten pounds current money of Virginia to be their property forever and at their disposal. Item, I bequeath to my sons, Thomas, William, Williamson & Richard my blacksmith tools equally amongst them to be their property forever & at their disposal & further I bequeath to my son William the feather bed & furniture thai I commonly use myself to be his property & at his disposal. Item, I bequeath to Nicholas Hammon ten pounds of current money of Virginia to be his property and at his disposal and my will is that the remainder of my estate (vis) stock of every kind, plantation utensils & houlsehold furniture to be sold, & out of the money arising from the sale the money above bequeathed to be paid, also all my just debts, the remainder together with what money I have have on hand, or that may be due me be equally divided amongst my children under named, (if the sale of my stock should not raise money enough to pay the legacies it is to be made up out of my debts or monies on hand) the balance to be divided amongst my children (viz) Thomas, William, Williamson, Richard, Elizabeth Burk, Mary Brown & Nancy Lavender to be their property forever, & at their disposal. Lastly, I appoint my sons Thomas Fortune & Williams Fortune & Nicholas Hammer Ex'ors of this my last will & testament as ____ my hand & seal this 13th day of September 1789
