LETTER WRITTEN BY URSULA GATCHELL (Mrs T J) 3 Mar 1952 - the letter was written to a Mrs Appleby and was sent to Jean (Branaugh) Sneesby since it had information on her line. Buffalo, Wyoming...Your letter received today and will answer what I can right away. If I lay it by for later it could easily be forgotten. Jim is in the hospital & so bad off from a stroke that he is unable to help you, so I, his wife, will do all I can. Bess, the oldest child, has the family Bible with the birth records in it: Mrs E A Given, 2414 Orman Ave - Pueblo Colorado - is her address. Jim is the oldest son - Al & Frank the younger brothers live here but they have no recollection of the family, other than their own. Grandpa Gatchell (Prince Albert) had a brother Jerry who visited him here, when Jim & I were first married. He was alone at the time - had been married in his early life to a Morman girl & they had two children, a boy & a girl. We never knew where Uncle Jerry went or what became of him - or anything about his former wife & children. But suppose she went back to her own people - supposedly in Utah. None of us ever knew her or what her name was. Uncle Jim was a cook. Grandpa P A Gatchell was a graduate of Bowden College in Law, in Maine & a Civil War Veteran. Came west after that & worked at the newspaper business in several places. Pembina North Dakota was one place he lived quite a while - & in Black River Falls WI (Jim was born at this place in WI). Jim & I have been married 51 years - our three girls married & have raised their families - three of their children are married & we have four great grandbabies. Frank has three great grands & Bess has two. I never heard John Gatchell mentioned or your father Hiram. Of course, you husband could be Uncle Jerry's son, or more likely his grandson. Joris Gatchell lives in California - he has his second wife, Grace - but I can't say how much he knows of the family history. He is the only Gatchell son, amongst the grandchildren, who grew up here of the P A Gatchell family & he has no children. So the name will soon be gone from here. Thelma named one of her boys "James Gatchell" for his father, but his last name is Condit. Joris lives in San Anselmo - 15 Berkley Ave - California - somewhere near Oakland. If you still want more accurate & complete names of the children of the family here I can get them for your record. But if you find we are not relatives it wouldn't be necessary. Bess can tell you more of the early family history. She is 82 but still have a good memory & the family Bible with the records. Bess Gatchell married Ewell S Given - they had 3 children: Lyneth m & has 2 children: Vernon married, and Vera married. Jacqueline is single. Theodore Albert is married. 2. Theodore James Gatchell married Ursula Sackett and they had 3 children: Thelma Jean Gatchell m Clark Huntley Condit = 3 children: Richard Huntley Condit married, James Gatchell Condit & Carolyn Jean Condit. Genevieve Gatchell married William Lester = 2 children: Renee Louise Lester m David A Scott and has Patricia Jane Scott. 2nd child is Nova Jane Lester. Clare Louise Gatchell married David George Quale = 2 children: Cynthia Ann m Robert Friese and has baby Lynn Friese; and Marcia.
3. Prince Algeroy Gatchell married Callie Hill and they have 2 girls: Alecia Gatchell married 3 times (error) and Gwendolyn Gatchell married 3 times. 4. Frank Gatchell married Winona Munkres and has 2 children: Joris Osmond Gatchell married twice. Harriet Sibyl Gatchell married Lee McNeese and has James McNeese married, Frances Millou McNeese, Sibyl Lee McNeese married & Theodore McNeese.
