bullet  General Notes:

Theodore was also known as James. The folowing from Jean Sneesby:
SOURCE - ALECIA (GATCHELL) LUND: Letter dated 3 Mar 1952 written by Ursula Gatchell with quite a bit of Gatchell information in it. At this time Jim was in the hospital after suffering a stroke. Jim was a pharmacist, going to work about 1892 with Edelman Drug Co at Sheridan Wyoming. In 1897 he opened the first drug store at Buffalo Wyoming. Though a pharmacist by trade Jim was an acknowledged writer and authority on the Indians of the northern plains. He accumulated artifacts which went into his place of business. Today the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum holds all of this collection.
SOURCE - WYOMING - A GUIDE TO ITS HISTORY, HIGHWAY AND PEOPLE, page 275: In Buffalo in a drug store on Main Street is a Gatchell collection, owned by Jim Gatchell, who spent years among the Blackfeet and Sioux and who speaks their language fluently. The collection includes Indian relics and frontier arms. The store is a rendezous of old timers.
SOURCE - LITERATURE FROM THE MUSEUM BROCHURE: Jim was a respected friend of the red man and white. Acknowledged authority of the Indians of the northern plains and on the history of the Powder River Country, author of many historical monographs. He was a beloved citizen of Buffalo Wyoming for more than a half a century.

SOURCE - Summer 1984 NEWSPAPER CLIPPING: Free Museum Reflects History - Many years ago, Jim Gatchell, a Buffalo pharmacist, started collecting artifacts and memorabilia of the cowboys, Indians and soldieres in the area. A friend to many, Gatchell soon acquired a sizeable display collection in the back room of his pharmacy in downtown Buffalo, and always had time to give visitors and friends a little tour. This extensive collection is now the featured attraction in the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum. Sandwiched between the lovely Johnson County Library and the Johnson County Courthouse, the Museum (10 Fort Street) is open daily from 9am to 9pm. If you visit during the off season, call Lee Campbell, museum curator, at 684-7550 for information about special tours. The Gatchell Museum is a tribute to those who first lived on the plains, foothills and mountains of this area, and to those who came later to explore and settle the country. Attracting 15,000 to 20,000 visitors from around the world each season, a tour of our museum is an enjoyable lesson in the history of this region and of the people who lived here. There's something for everyone at the Jim Gatchell Museum. Whether you're interested in Indian history, the early day cowboy, the settlement and development of Buffalo, life at a frontier fort, or authentic western history, you can find it all right here. And best of all, your visit to the Gatchell Museum won't cost you a thing - the entire museum is open to the public at no charge.
