THE LATE MRS. R. COATE.
PASSING AT STATHE.
LARGELY ATTENDED FUNERAL.
Many friends in Stathe and district mourn the death of Mrs. Mary COATE, widow of the late Mr. Robert COATE, of Stathe House, Burrowbridge. At the age of 85 years, Mrs. COATE passed away on Friday last.
The deceased was held in high esteem and greatly respected for her kindness. The family is widely known in Somerset, the late Mr. COATE having carried on a successful farming business for a good many years.
THE FUNERAL.
There was a large attendance at the funeral on Tuesday afternoon at Stoke St. Gregory. A service in the Parish Church was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev. S. Lano COWARD.
The family mourners attending were: Mr. W. H. COATE, son; Mr. and Mrs. S. R. COATE, son and daughter-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Howard COATE, son and daughter-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. B. B. GUY, son-in-law and daughter; Messrs. R. R. N., F. L. H., W. O., F. H. and P. COATE, grandsons; Mrs. S. SHEPPY, granddaughter; Mr. S. SHEPPY; Miss BUTT and Mr. C. SHERRIN, cousins; Mrs. W. HOOK and Mrs. GREGORY.
Among the general attendance were the following: Messrs. J. COATE (Redlands), C. D. COATE (North Curry), John KEIRLE (who was employed by the family for over forty years), H. L. COATE (North Curry), W. HOUSE (Dykes Farm, Stoke St. Gregory, E. BOOBYER and R. C. GARLAND (Stoke St. Gregory), J. HOUSE, H. HOSKINGS (Curry Rivel), W. HOUSE (Stathe Farm), B. HECTOR, F. S. HECTOR and TAYLOR, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. CUMMINGS, Mr. and Mrs. J. BARRINGTON (North Curry), Mrs. JENKINS (Lyng), Mrs. A. SHIRE and others.
Interment was made in the churchyard, the grave having been lined with blue bells, lilac and spring flowers by Mr. B. E. CHEDZOY. The coffin, of waxed oak, was supplied by Mr. H. BOOBYER. The breastplate was inscribed:-
“Mary Coate,
Died April 26th, 1935,
Aged 85 years.
R. I. P.”
Messrs. A. HARDING, J. POPE, William COATE and John KEIRLE were the bearers.
