LICENSEE FOR 55 YEARS

DEATH OF MISS MARY ANN LANG.

Miss Mary Ann LANG, who had been licensee of the Victoria Inn, East Reach, for 55 years and was probably the oldest licensee in the town, has died after a short illness at the age of 73. She was known to young and old alike as “Auntie.”

Miss LANG followed her grandfather, Mr ROGERS, who was licensee of the Victoria Inn for many years. She was born in Monmouth. For the past few years she has had the help of her nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred J JEANES in the business

The funeral at St. Mary's Cemetery was conducted by the Rev. Donald SHIELS, curate of St. Mary's. The mourners were:- Mr and Mrs. A. J. JEANES (nephew and niece). Messrs. Bert, Percy, and Garnet LANG Pontypridd (nephews), Miss Nellie LANG, Axminster (niece), Mr. Cecil LANG, West Hatch (nephew) Mr. and Mrs. C. LANG (nephew and niece), the Misses Winifred and Doris LANG (nieces), Mr. Leo LANG and daughter, Staple Fitzpaine (nephew and great-niece).

The Taunton and West Somerset Licensed Victuallers Association were represented by Messrs. Charles ESCOTT, R. H. STEVENS, J. CATTLE, and C. WARE, and the owners of the house – Messrs. Starkey Knight & Ford – by their Taunton Branch manager, Mr. CHAPPLE. Mr. S. SKINNER and other friends also attended.
