DEATH AND FUNERAL OF MR. J. VICKERY. - By the death of Mr. John VICKERY, which took place at his residence in High-street on the afternoon of the 14th inst., the town has lost a much-respected inhabitant, and one of its eldest tradesmen. Mr. VICKERY, who was in his 80th year, was a native of Wiveliscombe, and for many years now past carried on the well-known business of stationer, bookseller, and printer in High-street. On the passing of the Local Government Act in 1894, Mr. VICKERY became a member of the Urban District Council and continued to hold office until his retirement in 1903 through ill-health. Deceased was a life-long member of the Wesleyan Church, and in politics a supporter of the Liberal party. The funeral took place at the Parish Church on Wednesday afternoon last, drawn blinds on all sides and a cessation of business in many establishments marking the esteem held for deceased by his fellow tradesmen. The Vicar, the Rev. H. McCRIRICK, was the officiating clergyman, and the family mourners present were:- Messrs. T. VICKERY, A. VICKERY, H. VICKERY, F. W. VICKERY, V. H. VICKERY, G. VICKERY, and E. VICKERY (sons), Mrs. PARSONS, Miss A. VICKERY, Miss O. VICKERY (daughters), Mr. and Mrs. KICK (daughter and son-in-law), and Messrs. F. VICKERY and E. PARSONS (grandsons). Among the others present were Messrs. T. R. LANGDON, W. L. COX, G. HAWKINS, W. L. BENNETT, F. E. HANCOCK, H. TRELIVING, P. F. HANCOCK, P. G. CROSS, T. V. PEARSE, W. PENBERTHY, A. FOURACRE, T. THORNE (Castle), T. THORNE (London House), F. D. THOMAS, W. BROWN, and E. J. THORNE, sen. There was a large number of beautiful floral tributef [sic] sent.
