SEPTUAGENARIAN'S FATAL FALL.

NORTH CURRY WOMAN'S DEATH.

BEDRIDDEN FOR FIVE YEARS.

The West Somerset Coroner (Mr. G. P. CLARKE) held an enquiry at Stoke-road, North Curry, on Monday afternoon, relative to the death of Mrs. Ann PERRY, aged 75 widow of Worthy PERRY, a farm labourer, whose death occurred the previous day.

Miss Ada PERRY, daughter of the deceased, gave evidence of identification. She stated that on Saturday-Sunday night last she lifted her mother out of bed on several occasions. Witness slept with her, and was with her the whole of the night. At about 7 a.m. on Sunday witness lifted her mother out of bed, and as she (witness) turned to get a coat from the bottom of the bed to cover her, her mother fell to the floor and sustained a small bruise on the right forehead. Witness lifted her mother back into bed, and she did not appear to be any the worse for the fall. She was talking to witness until about eight o'clock, and then, as she appeared to be getting worse, witness sent for a neighbour, Mrs. DUKE. She passed away at about 9 a.m. Dr. SATCHWELL was summoned at 8.30, and up to then witness did not realised that the fall was serious. Her mother had been in failing health for five years, and witness had looked after her the whole time.

Richard Eric SATCHWELL, medical practitioner, North Curry, stated that he had attended deceased for three years. She had been bedridden for five years, and during that period had had two strokes, the last being two years ago. He usually saw her about once a month, and last saw her on February 6th. He was called on Sunday morning, and about half-an-hour later, as he was about to leave the house, he received a second message to say that she was dead. He called at the house and saw the body, and found a bruise, about the size of half-a-crown, on the right forehead. In his opinion death was due to heart failure, accelerated by shock resulting from the fall. At her age nothing could have been done for her. She had been very well looked after.

The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, adding that he was sure Miss PERRY did everything possible for her mother.
