Mathias Wukasch

Mathias Wukasch, of the Evangelical Lutheran School at Frohna, Mo., was born in the Kingdom of Saxony in 1859. He is the son of Mathias and Anna Wukasch, natives of Germany. Mathias Wukasch, Sr., is still living and residing in Texas. His wife died in 1874.

Mathias Wukasch, Jr. was educated in the Lutheran Seminary at Addison, Ill., graduating from the institution in 1873. He was immediately called to the present position, where for the last fifteen years he has instructed the youth. His ability and success as an educator is amply illustrated by the length of time he has held his first position. The schools at Frohna are well managed and are in a prosperous condition.

In 1877 he was united in marriage with Anna Fisher, who died in 1880 leaving one child, Joseph. Mr. Wukasch afterward married Johanna Schieferdecker, by whom he is the father of four children: Clara, Emma, Paul and Magdalena.

The Goodspeed Publishing Company compiled a series of histories of various counties in the U.S. in the late 19th century. The information in the History of Southeast Missouri, published in 1888, was provided by the contemporary residents of Perry County and her neighboring counties. The biographies are a valuable source of genealogical information, despite a few minor inaccuracies. We are glad to present the transcribed biographies here for anyone researching Perry County's history.
