"I haven't researched this line in any real
depth, as it is collateral to my husband's McCabe line, but this might be
useful for researchers more closely related to it. This is what I can add
(after some background):
During the early days of my research into my
husband's McCabe ancestors, I contacted and exchanged frequent emails with a
volunteer at the Putnam County Historian's office. She sent me quite a
bit of information from their McCabe file, as well as surrogate and other court
records. One of the file items was a copy of a single typewritten sheet
related to the Jonathan Miller family of Greene
County, New
York, the original of which is apparently held in the
Vedder Research Library in Coxsackie, New York. The
author is unknown, at least to us. At the bottom of the sheet is this
note:
"Remminiscence [sic] talk of Antoinette
Sexton - Daughter of Sherwood Miller
"Lydia McCabe Miller, my grandmother took
care of me after my mother died. She was the widow of Jonathan Miller and
lived to great age in the house he had built, where he died, in 1815.
This son Daniel S. had married Hannah Garet [sic], of New Baltimore, my
mother."
Sussel's work gives Daniel Sherwood Miller's
wife's name as Elizabeth, the daughter of John Garrett, Jr. and Catherine ____,
while his daughter Antoinette names her Hannah. I have not yet been able
to resolve this discrepancy. Nevertheless, it appeared that the Antoinette
Sexton quoted above may be the Catherine Antoinette Miller mentioned in
Sussels' work on page 5 of Volume III, Chapter 1.
My most recent attempt to find the full name of
Antoinette's husband led me to a death in the Bronx, New York
of an Antoinette Catherine Sexton on 22 Apr 1916 at age 86. Her death
notice in The New York Times identified her as the widow of John Sexton and
mother of Mrs. Olin J. Stephens of the Bronx.
This Antoinette's husband, an architect, whose death notice I also have,
died 19 Feb 1904 at the residence of Olin J. Stephens. A sketch of Olin James
Stephens in the book "The Bronx and its people : a history, 1609-1927 (New York:
Lewis Historical Pub. Co.,
1927) gives his wife's name as "Elizabeth Sexton, a daughter of John and
Antoinette (Miller) Sexton."
My initial purpose was to simply identify the
Antoinette Sexton of the note. I have, however, identified the next two
generations as well:
1. Anna Sexton b. c 1857 NY d. before 1900 m. 11
Jan 1882 Manhattan NY John Edward Fraser (b. c 1855 Cobourg, Ontario, Canada
d. after 1930). Children, surname Fraser:
a. Alexander John b. 2 Dec 1882 NY m. 7 Jun 1911 Manhattan
NY Gladys Brown
b. Lilla (Ethel Constance) b. 11 Mar 1885 Detroit MI m. 4 Sep 1906 Lake
George NY Rufus Delancy Seeley Putney
c. Leila Terry b. 21 Feb 1886 Detroit

1908 Bronx NY
Walter M. Gilbert
2. Elizabeth Sexton b. c 1860 NY d. 22 Feb 1937
Bronx, NY m. 5 Jun 1884 Saint Timothy's Protestant Episcopal Church, New York,
NY Olin James Stephens (b. 30 Oct 1859 New York NY d. 1 Feb 1935 Bronx NY).
Children, surname Stephens:
a. Roderick b. 26 or 27 Nov 1885 NY m. c 1907 Marguerite ___

3. In Volume 2: Chapter 10, Page 124
Source: This addition comes from Lorene Sinclair, August 2013
Mildred's original work, Volume 1, ch 7 p 68, the family of John Sager
and Harriet Gaffield's son Albert Sager and wife Mary Ann (Knox)
is CORRECT. You'll see that Merine Bowerman is one of twin
daughters of Lorna Marie Peck and William Albert Bowerman;
granddaughter of Lena Ascenith Sager and Harry Peck; ggranddaughter of
Albert and Mary Ann Sager.
In Vol 2 Chapter 10, p. 124 Lena Ascenith should have been listed
( as it is in Vol 1) as the daughter of Albert and Mary Ann Sager
NOT Merine. Someone mixed up their generations.
The piece about Phoebe Kimball needs clarification. Phoebe Ann KIMBLE
was the child of Amos Kimble and Lucretia Huffman and she was born on
22 Oct 1858 in Cannifton, Hastings County, Ontario, Canada (From
marriage record). She died on 10 Sep 1929 in Prince Edward (Age: 71).
She married (1) William Randall WEESE, son of George Angle Weese and
Phoebe Ann Weese on 14 Jun 1899 in Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada. He
was born on 22 Jun 1847 in Ontario. He died on 17 Feb 1932 in Prince
Edward.
