My main WHITE page WHY I AM INTERESTED IN THIS FAMILY: A group of us are trying to establish the relationship of William and Hannah White from NY to many other White families from NY who settled in the Quinte area. This Nathaniel White married Mary Bowerman, dau of Ichabod Bowerman and Jane Richmond and is likely connected in some way. His age suggests he is a contemporay of William and Hannah above. |

Notes for:
JON ACKER NOTE I've spent some time checking into the Nathaniel White family of Hallowell, and see that age-wise he could not be William White's son since they appear to be in the same general age range. Too early to say whether or not they could have been brothers, but I did find a few interesting details. Nathaniel's wife Mary Bowerman (b. 1765) was the daughter of Ichabod Bowerman and second wife Jane Richmond of Beekman. This Bowerman family resided at Verbank in the northernmost portion of Beekman township (not far from Mabbetsville, as mentioned in previous e-mail). So, despite the interesting presence of an Ichabod White in Washington township, it seems obvious that the name Ichabod instead came into Nathaniel's family from the maternal (Bowerman) side (although I don't doubt that these Whites are all related in some way). In Frank Doherty's chapter on the Bowermans Ichabod is referenced under several spelling variation (including Boorman and Bordman). In fact, he does appear as Ichabod Bordman on page 60 of the 1790 census, and the census must have been taken quite early in the year because Ichabod died prior to March 1st, when his will was probated. The three previous households are Doty families which have some association with the Brills. Doherty states that Ichabod's daughter Deborah married Reuben Vincent and remained on the family farm in Verbank after the rest of the family went to Canada. Ichabod's second wife Jane died the following year (1791) at the home of her son-in-law Cornelius Blount (who appears as Cornelius Blunt, several households after Ichabods on same census page). Elsewhere it states that Jane had gone to Canada with her children and then returned to Beekman. The name of Nathaniel and Mary's four sons were Ichabod, Jeremiah, William and Nathaniel. The name Jeremiah is interesting, since there was a Jeremiah White living near those Phillipstown Tomkins I mentioned. On page 26 are the consecutive households of Reuben and James Tomkins, and on the following page is George Tomkins, and a bit farther down Jeremiah White. This offers some intriguing possibilities worth considering. Source: Jon Acker email, Mar 2009 1798 HALLOWELL Nathaniel White is named on the assessment list for Hallowell as a Under List Rated.
