Notes for James Robert MCHENRY

Where is Robert McHenry?

-----
According to Verda, Elmira's granddaughter,
1. Robert was passing through town, met and married Elmira.
2. Robert and Elmira divorced possibly after Robert killed a man in self defense.

It is unknown if this happened in AR or in OK. It had to have happened sometime between Gentry's conception (late1887 to early 1888 ) and before 1900 where Elmira shows up married to Charles Maynard/Manard in Cherokee Co. OK

Gentry, Robert's son reported his father's birthplace as MO in two different census records. Pearl, Robert's daughter, reported it as TN in two and AR in one. Verda believes Robert was from TN or AR or lived there for a while? Pearl told her daughter Mallie that Robert was from 'back east'.

According to Pearl's cemetery record, she had lived in Cherokee County since early childhood. Pearl was abt 14 in 1900, the earliest time I can find Elmira in OK with her second husband of less than 1 year. Possibly Robert, Myra and family moved to OK prior to their divorce.
-----
Mallie, Elmira's granddaughter wasn't familiar with #1 above and said #2 didn't apply to Robert but to another person. She believed that the family originally moved either near the Kiamichi Mts or near Porum and Robert & Elmira may have separated there. This would be Muskogee Co.
-----
Phone calls to both County Clerks revealed there is no record of any McHenry to Dearman marriage in Searcy Co. or White County (Searcy), AR - kk 2003
-----
A phone call to the Cherokee Co. Clerk for a divorce record for James and Elmira produced nothing. Ok doesn't have divorce records that early. - kk 2003
-----
Robert's daughter Pearl was a member of the LDS church. The Church Membership Record is on the IGI as Pearl is deceased. Her parents are listed as James Robert McHenry and Elmira Derman. We know from other records that Elmira's last name is actually Dearman. The fact that Pearl's father's first name is actually James may explain the difficulty in finding any records on him up to this point. -----
A search of the 1900 census indexes on Heritage Quest returned the following individuals that could have been our James Robert. These individuals were either single, divorced, widowed or had only been married a few years and as such could have had a marriage prior to Elmira.
name - status - race - sex - birth - age - marital status - mar length - birthplace - father birth - mother birth - occupation

10. Robert McHenry - head - W - M - Oct 1858 - 41 - Wid - - MO-MO-MO - truck carpenter

The obvious first choice would be #1 on the list as he was the closest, of the correct age and listed as divorced. A search of the 1860 census for TX doesn't show a James or Robert McHenry of the correct age.
In 1860 there were 14 McHenry children listed in the country between the ages of 0 and 10. None were Robert or James. In 1870 there were two 10 year old boys named James McHenry, one in Tallula PO, Menard Co. IL (w/John McHenry) and one in Loyalhanna Twp, Westmoreland Co. PA (in the home of Charles Kenard?). There was also a Robert McHenry age 12 living in the home of William Beavers in Arcadia Pct, Morgon Co. IL.
