Matilda can be found in the 1880 census with her son General Marion Hughes

Looked for Matilda page by page in the 1870 census but she is not found there. I even looked at all people in their 60's in case she was living with a daughter and had been listed under the son-in-law's name but couldn't find her there. There was one page missing from that census on ancestry. Page 531a or image 40/153. Will check back later. Should also check Clark Co. Census
