Obituary for Hardy A. Hughes

The Lord in His infinate wisdom called from us Bro. H. A. Hughes at his home in Marietta, Ok April 26, 1917. His death was due to pheumonia. With which disease he was ill only a few days.

Brother Hughes was born in Hot Springs County , AR Jan 24, 1958. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss, all of whom were present at the funeral.

Friends and relatives of the deceased who attended the funeral were: J.M. Hughes of Hermleigh, TX; Miss Enola Hughes of Ft Smith AR; Mrs. Ennis Bennett of El Reno, OK; Mr. and Mrs T.M. Cloud and children of Konawa, OK; and Mrs. E.L. Rhodes of Enville: two brothers: A.J. Hughes of Stratford OK; J.A. Hughes of Oklahoma City, Ok; a cousin, Stokes Bray and wife and child of Stratford, OK.

Bro. Hughes leaves a number of grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends to mourn his departure.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. McMeans. Bro. Hughes was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in which he lived a true and devoted Christian life.

The remains were laid to rest in the Marietta cemetery.

Note: though it says Hardy's wife attended, she was in the hospital and unable to attend his funeral.

Searched the 1910 Love Co. OK census but did not find Hardy Hughes. One page (5/34) of Ed 167 was missing.

Hardy and family lived several doors down from their dauther Ethel and her husband, and Hardy's brother Thomas and his family.

Bond for Marriage License for Hardy and Kiomitia

Know all men by these presents that we Hardy A. Hughes as principal and A.G. Dyer as security, are held and firmly bound unto the state of Arkansas, for the use and benefit of the Common School Fund of Hot Spring County, in the penal sum of one hundred dollars, for the payment of which well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these presents. Signed this 28th day of June 1880.

The condition of the above obligation is such that, whereas, the above bounden Hardy A. Hughes has applied to the clerk of the county court of Hot Spring County, for a license authorizing the solemnization of the Right of Matrimony between the said Hardy A. Hughes and Kiomitia H. Dewoody. Now if the said parties applying for said License have a lawful right to the same, and if they shall faithfully carry into effect and comply with the provisions therof, and shall, within sixty days of the date hereof, return the said License to the office of the clerk of the County Court of said County, duly executed and officially signed by some one authorized by law to solemnize the Matrimony, then this obligation shall be void, but otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

STATE OF ARKANSAS, County of Hot Spring: TO ANY PERSON AUTHORIZED BY LAW TO SOLEMNIZE MARRIAGE -- GREETING:

You are hereby commanded to solemnize the Rite and publish the bans of Matrimony between Mr. Hardy A. Hughes of ____________________ in the County of Hot Spring and State of Arkansas aged 22 years, and Miss Kiomitia Hellen Dewoody of _________________ in the County of Hot Spring and State of Arkansas aged 19 years, according ot law: and do you officially sign and return this License to the parties herein named.

WITNESS my hand and official seal, this 28th day of June A.D. 1880.

STATE OF ARKANSAS, COUNTY of Hot Spring, I John W. Keith, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Ex Officio Clerk of the County Court and Recorder of said County, certify that the above Licens for and Certificate of Marriage of Hardy A. Hughes and Miss Kiomitia H. Dewoody were, on the 15th day of July 1880, filed in my office, and the same are now duly recorded on Page 312 of Book "B" of Marriage Records.
