Notes for Isaac TITSWORTH

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who is Isaac's father, who are his children?

Children:

There is a commonly held belief that this Isaac is the father of the following sons

Hiram b 1810
Lemuel b c 1811
William b 1813
Isaac b 1818
James b 1822
Miles Jefferson b 1828

I believe that Hiram and Lemuel (and possibly William) above are actually brothers of Isaac and not his sons.

The following was taken from http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Union/Untp13.htm

The History of Union County Ohio, Vol II, illustrated Chicago: W. H. Beers & Co. 1883.

"The Titsworths came about 1834. They consisted of Isaac Titsworth, his wife and two sons-Hiram and Lemuel-and several daughters. They had formerly resided for many years in Logan County. They settled in the Southwestern part of Survey 9,917, about a mile northeast from Byhalia, on the Essex road. Hiram was the first Justice of the Peace in the township. But little legal erudition was then requisite as a qualification for election to this office and legal forms were not very closely observed at first. Hiram afterward sold his place of 126 acres in Survey 9,917, and removed to Missouri. Isaac and his wife died in the township, and Lemuel moved to Richland County, near Mansfield, after disposing of his farm in this township."
***
In 1820 I have found two families headed by Isaac Titsworth in Ohio.

1820 Pickaway Co. OH Census
Isaac Titsword 1m<10, 1m26-45, 2f<10, 1f16-26

1820 Logan Co. OH Census
Isaac Titsvorth 2m<10, 2m16-26, 1m26-45, 1m45+, 1f26-45*
*Note: The 26-45y.o. female could be Jane of the headsone with the inscription 'Jane wife of Isaac Titsworth, died Sept 13, 1848 age 77 yrs' found in North Greenfield, Logan Co. OH. That would make her abt 43 in 1920 fitting the age of the woman here.

We know Isaac Jr was born (abt 1815) in Pickaway Co. Oh as per the 1860 census. This would also agree with the one young son for the Isaac in Pickaway in 1820 census. We know that Isaac, father of Hiram and Lemuel came from Logan Co. abt 1834. The ages for Hiram and Lemuel would fit for two youngest sons of Isaac of Logan Co. OH 1820. If William is this Isaac's son where is he in this census?

The 1830 Census for Logan county lists Isaac and another Titsworth family headed by James Titsworth.

James' family consisted of the following 1m 30-40, 2f<5, 1f5-10, 1f30-40, 1f 70-80.

This shows that James was born sometime between 1790-1800. This would fit as one of the 16-26y.o. males in Isaac of Logan Co's family. Also, Jane (see Greenfield Cemetery Inscription below) would have been born in abt 1771 and would have been 49 in 1820. A couple years off from the 26-45y.o. female but still pretty close. Maybe she was a later wife?

From the above I believe that the family of the 1820 Logan Co. Isaac Titsworth consisted of
Isaac and possibly Jane, sons Himram, Lemuel and James (not James b:1822 above), + 1m 26-45

The 1820 Pickaway Co. Isaac Titsworth family consisted of
Isaac Sr + 1f16-26, Isaac Jr, + 2f<10

I currently do not have a theory for where William b:abt 1813, James b:1822, or Miles b:1828 fit in. I am still trying to find this Isaac in the 1850 census which may or may not shed some light on this.

Father:
We know Isaac was born in what was VA in abt 1787.

The 1784 Hampshire Co. VA Reconstructed Census - List of Abraham Johnson (microfilm number T-498, Roll 3 (Virginia) lists Isaac Titford 3(whites).

The 1782 Hampshire Co. VA Reconstructed Census - List of Abraham Johnson includes an Isaac Titzord 3(whites)

Looking at the 1810 Hampshire Co. VA Rec. Census we find there is no Titsworth listed so unless they were missed they had probably moved out of the area by 1810. Where did they go? Logan Co. Ohio maybe? Until I can find proof otherwise I am leaning toward this as actually being Isaac Titsworth and at least one son? Possibly our Isaac?

Isaac's Death and Burial:
--
[email protected] lists Isaac's wife as Margaret, died before 1850 and lists Isaac's death as Sept 30 1860 and his burial in Vennard Cem, Cass Co IN. gives no source info.
--
The following was taken from responses to an emails sent to the Walton Library, Cass Co. In requesting info on Isaac's burial place

Isaac Titsworth died 9-3-1860 at the age of 74 years.
He is listed in row 2 with a note that either the monument is not there or that it is illegible. The book lists 15 rows total in the cemetery. There are no other Titsworths listed in this one or the IOOF cemetery.

Inscription in North Greenfield Cemetery, Perry twp, Logan Co OH (NW corner of State route 292 and county road 2)
"Titsworth, Jane d. 13 Sep 1848 - 77yrs 5mo 11days - wife of Isaac Titsworth"

Note: Jane would have been born April 2, 1771 a bit early for Isaac's wife. Maybe his mother or step mother? More than likely the wife if Isaac Titsworth (I suspect this Isaac's father) found in the 1820 Logan Co. Census.
-------
http://users.intrepid.net/~ksanders/sanders.htm lists an Isaac as having two brothers Hiram and Lemuel.

Hiram b: Aug 8 1809 Logon Co OH., d: Jan 24, 1880 in MO (lists possibly Harrison Co), Mar. Nancy Sent, June 11, 1831 Logon Co OH

Lemuel b: 1810 Logon Co OH, Mar. Mary Ann Irwin, Aug 3, 1830 Logon Co OH

Lists Isaac, Hiram and Lemuel's parents as Isaac Titsworth b: 1750 d: 1830, and Jane Wick. - no sources given.

Note: this seems to be the nearest I can prove. Hiram and Lemual's ages fit with later births for Isaac from Logan CO. 1820

Note2: I purchased this book. It is a collection of family group sheets from various individuals, some with documentation and some without. I found some errors with regards to this Isaac and his son Isaac.
