Flansburg is an Old Dutch name appearing in New York as early as 1716. It was then Vlensburgh. Later it became Flensburgh, Flansborough, Flansburgh, and Flansburg. The Old Dutch Church records of Albany, New York, contain the names and the dates of the births of the first 3 children of John Flansburg and his wife Catharine Becker. These children were born before their parents moved west. The names and dates agree with those given in a Family Bible in the possession of (Mr. Luther) Julia Stanley Keeney, Wayne, Nebraska. This Bible formerly belonged to Catherine Becker Flansburg and was given by her to her granddaughter, Catharine Margaret Stanley, her namesake. Catharine Margaret Stanley was the mother of Julia Stanley Keeney.
