BIOGRAPHY: The Danial family were descendants from the French Hugenots in Virginia. There is a lot of Scotch blood in the family.
Joseph came from Shelbyville, Indiana, migrated to Iowa near Hopeville, Iowa. Living on the Ben Gaumer farm near Hopeville. They moved to Clarke County, Doyle Township, Iowa in 1856. About 1888 they moved to Murray, Iowa. Joseph was one of the leading and most trusted citizens. A member of the Christian Church and a true man in every sense of the word. His wife was an example of strict integrity. He had held the office of supervisor three terms and other township trust, frequently. Joseph was buried in the Hopeville Cemetry. To this union were born ten children.
BIOGRAPHY: Edward Emary Williamson was born March 18, 1822 in Eastern Shore, Caroline county, Maryland. Died April 21, 1908, age-86 years, 1 month ,3 days, Hopeville, Iowa. Edward moved to Fayette County, Indiana in 1826, wiht his folks, where he lived for twenty nine years. While living here, he was united in marriage to Mary Shields, in February 1843, Stark County, Indiana.
To this union were nine children, one having died in infancy and one, "Mrs Milton (Lillie) Daniel" in February 1907. The remaining seven survied him and were by his bedside during his Last illness. He removed to Iowa in 1855. Here his wife died January 19, 1872. On April 6, 1876, he was agian united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Rice. To this union were born five children, two having died in infancy. The remaining three with the aged wife are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
EDWARD E. WILLIAMSON, a resident of Hopeville, is a native of Caroline County, Maryland, born March 18, 1822. When he was about seven years of age, in 1829, his father, Elijah Williamson, removed with his family to Fayette County, Indiana.Our subject was reared to manhood in Indiana, and in January, 1844, was married to Miss Mary Shields. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Williamson, of whom eight still survive-- Sarah J., Elijah, Elizabeth, Lillie C., John S., Mary F., Charles E. and Rosetta. Mrs. Williamson died, and April 6, 1876, Mr. Williamson married his present wife, Mary E. Rice, by whom he has had five children, three of whom are living-- Robert W., Thomas A. and William H.
Mr. Williamson came to Iowa in 1856, and since the fall of 1858, has been a resident of Clarke County. He is one of the oldest settlers now living in Clarke County, with whose interests he has been identified for almost thirty years, and is one of the respected citizens of Hopeville, where he now makes his home.
The deceased was a worthy member of the Christian Church, was one of our oldest citizens and leaves a numerous train of relatives and friends to mourn her loss, which falls heavily upon her bereft husband and children, to whom she has ever been a loving, kind and faithful wife and mother. But she has left behind her the brightest evidence that she has entered into the rest prepared for the people of God, and therefore we "sorrow not as those who have no hope; for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, there also who sleep in Jesus will God bring with him."

In 1829 John and Lucy left Shelby County , Kentucky for Putnam County, Indiana . A wilderness area inhabited by Indians and wild animals. Lucy rode on horseback carrying their few belongings and John walked by her side.
The 1840 census of Indiana shows that John and his father Nathaniel had moved to Greene County, settling in Beech Creek Twp. In the fall of 1856 the family moved to Clarke County, Iowa.
