    Born in Tennessee; came to Monroe county, Mississippi, where he married (Mrs.) Nancy Sanders Nov. 4, 1846.
    They came to Bastrop county, Texas, about 1852.

    Russell Scroggins died in Bastrop county in April 1853, when George Smith was sppointed his administrator. In his will (Bastrop County Probate Book D-113) he left his estate to "my dear wife Nancy" and after her death to "her daughter, Emeline E. Smith." His will also provides for a tombstone, costing "no less than $25." to be erected at his grave. No trace of his tombstone has been found.
