Looking for documents that could prove the Indian heritage of Minerva Guinn. Minerva was my husband's great great grandmother. His great grandmother was Rebecca Hill who married George Ed Scroggins. George Ed's son Milo Scroggins was his grandfather. Below is An article in the book, Conway County-Our Land, Our Home, Our People, submitted by Minor Hill which states:
Jonas Hill was born in 1763 in Granville, NC. He entered service in 1781 while living in Surry County, North Carolina, where he served three months as a private in Captain Samuel Dyer's Mounted Infantry. He rendezvoused at the mouth of Zararet, marched to Yadkin and on to Hillsboro where he served five months as a private under Captain Hichman under Colonel Malberton during the battle of Eutaw. Jonas was married in June, 1808, to Mary Barnes, born in 1792 in South Carolina. He died August 31, 1840, and was buried in Franklin County, Tennessee, where he had received a land Grant. The fourth of their eight children, Scarlett Anderson Hill, born 1827, in Tennessee, married Minerva Guinn (1/2 Indian) on March 25, 1842 in Franklin County, Tennessee. He fought with the 1st. Arkansas Infantry Volunteer in the Civil War. He took ill and was sent to St. Louis, Missouri, where he died and was buried. Thomas Jefferson Hill, born May 18, 1852 in Arkansas, was the 7th. of Scarlett Anderson Hill and Minerva Guinn's nine children. He was married on January 1, 1871, to Hannah Jane Polk, born September 15, 1854 in Arkansas. They bought land west of Center Ridge where they farmed all their married lives until their deaths. They had a live-in maid, Mag Reid, because of Hannah's health. He died March 10, 1931, and she died June 26, 1931. Both are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetgery near Center Ridge. Alex Alexander Hill, the second of their eight children, was born February 22, 1893, at Center Ridge, Arkansas. He was married on June 5, 1910, to Lillie Mae Williams, born June 20, 1893 in Bono, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Horatio Williams and Lottie Mae Eaton Williams Cross.
Would like to hear from anyone that has any information concerning the Indian Heritage of Minerva Guinn, Rebecca Hill Scroggins, or others in the direct line of Minerva. Any help appreciated. Peggy.
