• Obituary*: Of Helen Wells, 29 Aug 1999, Log Cabin Democrat, Conway, Faulkner Co, AR, Helen Wells Scroggins, 82, of North Little Rock died Friday (Aug. 27, 1999).
  
  Born Oct. 1, 1916, in Little Rock, she was a daughter of George Milton and Frankie Johnson Wells. The widow of John A. Scroggins, she served as organist and pianist for Reynolds Baptist Church in Little Rock for 25 years before joining Amboy Baptist Church in North Little Rock, where she and her husband taught Sunday school and were both involved in the music program. She was a member of Central Baptist Church of North Little Rock. As a young girl she provided the piano music for silent films in her aunt's movie houses. She and her husband owned Wells and Scroggins Grocery and Market in Little Rock which was founded by her father in the early 1920s. She was secretary to the assistant director of the Arkansas Department of Education for 10 years.
  
  Survivors include three daughters, Betty Carroll of North Little Rock, Jo Ann Layton of El Dorado, and Jane Hawk of Conway; a brother, Richard Wells of North Little Rock; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
  
  Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Huson Funeral Home of Sherwood with Bryan Webb officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery in North Little Rock
  
  Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be at 6708 Ponderosa.
  
  Memorials may be made to the music department at Central Baptist Church.²
