  • Obituary*: Of Amos Richardson RICHARDSON, Amos - 1848 - 1902
Funeral of Amos Richardson - Born in Polk County near Humansville, Mo. June 17, 1848 and died at the age of 53 in Clinton Saturday morning, January 4, 1902 between nine and ten o'clock, after a serious illness of two or three weeks. For some time, his health had been poor, but at last Bright's disease, with complications, closed his earthly life. At about the age of 21, he was married to Miss Lee Ann Scroggins and lived in Johnson County, at Rose Hill, four or five years, then moved to Bates County, where his wife died. Of this union, two daughters were born, Miss Ora Richardson and Mrs. Josie Freeman. He lived in Clinton with his mother for some time and married Miss Hattie Schull. In two or three years she died, leaving a daughter, Daisy. In January 1886 he married Miss Alice Mefford and has been a well-known resident of Clinton ever since. A son, Fred, came to bless his home and is now a lad of about 15 years. For six years Mr. Richardson was city marshal in Clinton and for three years deputy sheriff. Since then, for six years, he was the proprietor of the Schull House, then last May he opened the hotel on Franklin Street, known as The Richardson. His heart and home welcomed many a lonely traveler on the road. In his home, he was gentle and kind. He united with a church in Johnson County in his early years, was not identified with any church in recent years, but had, in Clinton, made profession of faith in Jesus as his Saviour. The funeral was held in the First Baptist Church. Burial in Englewood, Knights of Pythias officiating.3
