    Nuel James Scroggins, age 83, passed away Monday, June 11, 2001 at St. John's Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Mr. Scroggins was born in Kingston, Ark., January 25, 1918, to Della May and J.R. Scroggins. He was one of seven children, five brothers and one sister, all are deceased now. He grew up in Muskogee, Okla.


    He married Bonita Nelson in 1940. They had two daughters and one son. He lost his beloved Bonita in November 1975.


    Mr. Scroggins, drove for Crown Coach bus lines, and several trucking firms and retired from Yellow Freight Trucking Company in 1976. He was a member of Elks, the Eagle Lodge and the Joplin Shrine. His family and his friends were his whole life. He loved hunting, fishing and playing pool. He won several trophies. He loved being with his family and friends. At 83 he was still going and doing the things he loved. He always made friends with everyone he met and was so loved by all.


    He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Rogers and her husband Lanny, and Marcia Johnston and her husband Dennis, both of Joplin; his son David N. Scroggins of Joplin; eight grandchildren, Staci Scroggins, Shelly Jones, Casey Scroggins, Kelly Sizemore, Marcy Hill, Amy Montgomery, Lori Holland, and Scott Scroggins; ten great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; his special angel Lori Holland and husband Bill who did so much for him through his illness and were always there for him the last few years; his nephew, Rodney Scroggins and niece, Debbie Scroggins; his special lady friend, Bernice McClain, who was always there for him and all of us.


    A brother, Al Scroggins and grandson, Scott D. Scroggins preceded him in death.


    He was a wonderful dad and grandpa to all of his children. We adored him and he will always be in our hearts, and we will carry his spirit with us, and miss him forever.


    Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Kelly Ross minister will officiate, and the pallbearers will be Frank Bond, Randy Newman, J.D. Gates, Ron Keough, Lanny Rogers, Bill Holland, and Bob Armstrong.
