    Scroggins, Rafel
    was born April 12, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to the late Melvin [37042] and Rebecca Scroggins [37041]. He was one of eleven children born to this union. He was taken home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2010 in Tucson, Arizona. Rafel Scroggins leaves several siblings to cherish his memory: David Scroggins [37045] (Safford, AZ), Jerry Scroggins [37051] (Los Angeles, CA), Herbert Scroggins [37049] (Savannah, GA), Willie Earl Scroggins [37046] (Safford, AZ), Karen High [?] (San Diego, CA), Sheila Irvin [37043] (Safford, AZ), Mildred Scroggins [?](Phoenix, AZ), Merle Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ), and Bob Scroggins [?] (Phoenix, AZ). Rafel leaves a legacy of three surviving sons: Rafael Scroggins Jr. (San Francisco, CA), Derek Scroggins (Sacramento, CA), and Zeke Scroggins (Lexington, KY); two grandchildren: Seth Scroggins and Jada Scroggins (Sacramento, CA). Also Colleen Scroggins (Pebble Beach, CA), and Thelma Brandon-Davis (Safford, AZ), and a host of adoring relatives, cherished friends and church family members, whom he loved. Rafel was very active within the church community. He served the Lord at A-Mountain Church Of God In Christ in Tucson, Arizona. He was very spirit filled and passionate about his church and the work of the Lord, achieving the title of Ordained Deacon on February 1, 1998. He studied the Bible daily, he enjoyed spreading the Lord's Word to all he encountered and would eagerly pray for everybody. He always shared a positive word of encouragement, even when he was ill. Rafel worked in the area of drilling and soil testing for mining operations, among other jobs, before becoming a high power electrician for the City of Tucson for over 30 years. Rafel was a very outgoing person and was well liked by his employer and fellow employees. His enthusiasm for hard work did not stop when he retired in 2004. He made it a point to spend time helping his community and fellow congregational members. He did not know a stranger and has many dear friends throughout the communities of Tucson, Safford and Phoenix, AZ to mourn his passing. Deacon Scroggins, without a doubt -- "All Minds Are Clear" -- you will be truly and sincerely missed! The wake is Friday February 5 6-7PM at Bethesda Community Baptist Church, 906 E. Jones Ave Phoenix. The funeral service is Saturday February 6th 1PM at Taylor Memorial Headquarters, 1725 E. Brill St, Phoenix, AZ. The interment will take place at Safford City Cemetery Monday, February 8th at 11AM. In lieu of cards and flowers, the family is accepting donations which are being received by Wells Fargo Bank.     Rebecca Mary Asher

    Rebecca Mary Asher, 86, of Safford passed away Feb. 2. 2003. She was born Oct.. 15, 1916, in Venus, Texas, to C.L. and Lucille Kilgore.

    Rebecca lived in the Safford area for the last 45 years. She and her husband, Herman Asher, were married July 1, 1963 at the Graham County Court House.

    Rebecca enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also loved going to church, singing and praising God. She just loved being around people.

    Rebecca is survived by her husband, Herman Asher Sr. of Safford; daughter Shelia Irving of Safford; sons, Melvin Scroggins Jr. of Blythe, Calif., David and Willie Scroggins of Safford, Ray Scroggins of Tucson, Allen Scroggins of Phoenix, Herbert Scroggins of Savannah, Ga., Eddie Scroggins of Globe, Jerry Scroggins of Los Angeles, Calif.; god- daughter Mattie Tawlton of Safford; 37 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by sons Herman Asher Jr., Billy Ed and Joe Scroggins, and daughter Susie Mae Graham.

    Services were Feb. 8 at the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Safford.

    Arrangements for services were under the direction of Morris David's Safford Funeral Home.
