Benjamin Scroggins
IRON RIVER — Benjamin N. Scroggins, 83, formerly of Iron
River, died Sunday evening, Aug. 26, 2001, in Appleton, Wis.
Mr. Scroggins was born June 29, 1918, in Thomaston, Ga.,
son of the late Benjamin and Mary (Burdett) Scroggins.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was
involved in three invasions.
Mr. Scroggins later worked for the U.S. Coast Guard as a
civilian employee for 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography.
He was preceded in death by his first wife. He later married
the former Isabelle (Forsten) Sleeman and she also preceded
him in death, as well as a son, Joseph Scroggins.
He leaves two sons, Nicholas Scroggins of Britton, lower
Michigan, and Benjamin Scroggins Jr. of Peterborough, N.H.;
three stepchildren, Marilyn (Marvin) Lindbloom of Sturgeon
Bay, Wis., Thomas (Connie) Sleeman of Fort Meyers, Fla.,
and Ruth (Louis) Rosetti of Neenah, Wis.; a sister, Jeanette
English of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight
stepgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wichmann
Funeral Home in Appleton, Wis., where funeral services will be
held at 6 p.m. Rev. Dennis Episcopo will officiate.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the
Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River. Rev. John Fish, pastor of
First Baptist Church in Iron River will officiate.
The Langenberg Funeral Home-Iron River Chapel is in charge
of local arrangem.
