    Obituary: Edna Mae Holt

    Funeral services for Edna Mae Holt, 74, of Locust Grove, were held Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at 2:00pm in the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Locust Grove. Rev. Harry Jackson, Rev. Travis Martin, and Rev. Coy Scroggins officiated, with interment following in Hogan Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

    Mrs. Holt was born October 11, 1925, in Okemah, to Frank and Beulah (Terrall) Scroggins. She passed from this life on Saturday, January 15, 2000, in Tulsa.

    She lived in the Locust Grove area most of her life, and attended the Union Valley School. She married Hoy A. Holt on September 26, 1947, in Tulsa. She worked as a riveter at Spartan Aircraft in Tulsa during World War II. She then worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for 30 years, retiring in 1979.

    Mrs. Holt was an active member of the Locust Grove community, volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center and delivering meals to the elderly for many years. She enjoyed gardening and ceramics, and also loved to crochet. She always made her special homemade fried pies for Founder's Day. She was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God church in Locust Grove, and the Telephone Pioneers.

    She is survived by one daughter, Debra Allen and husband Tommy of Wainwright; one son, Rick Holt of Catoosa; two brothers, Coy Scroggins and wife Nancy of Locust Grove, and Corkey Scroggins of Bartlesville; three sisters, Rhoda Johnston of Pryor, Nora Lee Whitaker and husband Burl of Salina, and Wanda Doyle and husband Tommy of Pryor; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jan Allen, and Corey and Kevin Holt; special friend Whistle Markham; and numerous other relatives and friends.

    She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband Hoy Holt; one sister, Faye Johnson; and one brother, Billy Ray Scroggins.3

    Rev. Coy Jean Scroggins
    July 8, 1927 - December 17, 2003

    Funeral services for Rev. Coy Jean Scroggins, 76, of Locust Grove, were held Monday, December 22, 2003, at 2:00pm in the First Assembly of God Church, Pryor. Pastor Steve McPherson, Rev. Floyd Renfro, and Pastor Harry Jackson officiated, with interment following in Hogan Cemetery South, Locust Grove. Services were under the direction of the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

    Scroggins was born July 8, 1927, in Wynona, Oklahoma, to Frank and Beula (Terral) Scroggins. He passed from this life on Wednesday, December 17, 2003, in Tulsa.

    He grew up around Peggs, Locust Grove, and Tahlequah, and graduated from Tulsa Central High School. He served one enlistment in the US Army and was honorably discharged. He received his Master’s degree in education from Northeastern State University, and taught for over 30 years at schools in the area, including Smith Chapel, Salina, Little Rock, Jay, and Spavinaw schools. He had also been a licensed minister in the Assembly of God church since 1956; he spent 35 years in the ministry and pastored five churches.

    He was married to Nancy Harmer on July 26, 1963, in Muskogee. He had been in the Locust Grove area since his retirement in 1985, coming from Jay. He enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, and deer hunting, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He attended the First Assembly of God in Pryor.

    He is survived by his wife Nancy Scroggins of the home; two sons, Darren and wife Tammy Scroggins of Jay, and LaRay Scroggins; brother J.D. "Corky" and wife Ardena Scroggins of Bartlesville; three sisters, Rhoda Johnston, Wanda and husband Tommy Doyle, all of Pryor, and Nora Lee Whitaker of Kenwood; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; one brother Billy Ray Scroggins; and two sisters, Fay Johnson and Edna Mae Holt.
