    Floyd Cecil ?Jack? Scroggin, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, formerly of Hot Springs, born December 16, 1923, in Damascus, Arkansas to Floy Stell and William Paul Scroggin, died in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, September 27, 2006, after a long illness with Alzheimer?s. Mr. Scroggin served in the Coast Guard from October 29, 1942 to March 14, 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He joined the Arkansas State Police on February 16, 1948. Mr. Scroggin received a commendation in 1970 following an uprising in Cummins Prison on November 21 and 22 of that year. On September 20, 1982, he received the Departmental Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, through the years, the Arkansas State Police received many letters of praise from citizens for his help and service to the community. After a distinguished career, he retired from the Arkansas State Police on December 31, 1982. He was a Sergeant of Troop K in Hot Springs. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Jack possessed a loving and jovial personality and will always be remembered with admiration, honesty, affection and love.

    He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Ruth Haywood Scroggin, married since April 30, 1988; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline (Jackie ) Sue and Leon Schochet of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Donna and Bill Freeman of Katy, Texas; step-son and step-daughterin-law, Dwayne and Jan Lansdowne of Hot Springs; three sisters, Pauline Short of Wichita, Kansas, Thelma Gene Hatcher of Highlands, Texas, and Rosemary Martin of Sherwood, Arkansas; two brothers, Robert William Scroggin of Tampa, Florida and James Paul Scroggin of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a step-mother, Maggie Howe Scroggin of Sherwood, Arkansas. He was predeceased by his first-wife, Mary Lois Scroggin (June 18, 1985 ) and his son, Robert Stephen Scroggin (October 14, 2003 ) of Mesquite, Texas.

    Visitation will be 2-4 p. m. Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Gross Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Gross Funeral Home Chapel by his cousin, Reverend Dr. Earl White on Monday, October 2, 2006, at 10: 30 a. m. Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the Arkansas State Police. Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Dorothy Hicks, Odyssey Hospice, and Tennessee State Veterans Home of Tennessee for their loving care of Jack during his illness.     Floyd Cecil (Jack) Scroggin, 82, of Goodlettsville, Tenn., formerly of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006. He was in the Coast Guard, was in law enforcement and retired from the Arkansas State Police. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Hot Springs.

    Survivors include his wife Ruth Haywood Scroggin; daughter Jacqueline Sue Scholine and husband Leon of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; step-daughter Dona Freeman and husband Bill of Katy, Texas; step-son Dwayne Lansdowne and wife Jan of Hot Springs; sisters Pauline Short of Wichita, Kan., Thelma Gene Hatcher of Highlands, Texas, and Rosemary Martin of Sherwood; brothers Robert William Scroggin of Tampa, Florida, and James Paul Scroggin of Little Rock; and step-mother Maggie Howe Scroggin of Sherwood.

    He was preceded in death by his first-wife Mary Lois Scroggin and son Robert Stephen Scroggin.

    The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 2, at Gross Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Crestview Cemetery.
