    SUNFLOWER - Funeral services for John Howard Dodd, 84, of Sunflower, a farmer, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church, Sunflower. He died May 1, 2005, at Baptist East Hospital, Memphis. Burial will be in Lehrton Cemetery, Ruleville, under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

    He was a lifelong resident of Sunflower County, Miss. Last week, Mr. Dodd reminisced with his daughter about his long happy life, rich in family, friends, neighbors and farming. He farmed cotton, soybeans, cattle and rice. After retiring, he stayed active in the farming community by marking rice fields for friends and neighbors. He served on the Drainage Commission for Sunflower County for over 40 years. He was christened at Lebanon Methodist Church at Dodd's-Grady Crossing and later joined the Blaine Community Church.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Gibson Dodd; his son, Loyd Allen Dodd; and his nine brothers and sisters.

    He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Alice Holeman Dodd of Sunflower; his daughter, Janie Dodd Fales of Binghamton, N.Y., and his daughter-in-law, Libby Carr Dodd of Cardwell, Mo., and their families: Becky Dodd of Cardwell, Mo., Walter and Julie Dodd and daughter Megan, all of Sylacauga, Ala.; John Tyson and Carrie Scroggins and son John Tanner, all of Casa Grande, Ariz.; Shawn Clayton Scroggins of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Andrew Dodd Fales and Chris Fales, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; Rita and Jerry Jones and daughters Jessica and JeriKay, all of Cleveland; Albert Ray and Pattie Holeman, both of Sunflower; and RayAnn and Wesley Sullivan, both of Cleveland. Mr. Dodd felt a strong and loving bond with his many nieces and nephews. He had recently expressed his deep appreciation for the love and care extended to him and his wife, Alice, by Myrtle Black and her family of Olive Branch, Miss.

    The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunflower Baptist Church.
