Mark Allen Edmiston, age 53, died Oct. 9, 2013, of complications from diabetes, a disease he had fought for several years. Mark, a longtime resident of Farmers Branch, enjoyed watching Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboys football, engaging in spirited political debates, listening to music and caring for the family pets he adored so much over the years. He was a devoted son, much loved by his parents, Patricia Scroggins Edmiston and the late Steven Allen Edmiston of Farmers Branch, as well as his extended family. Mark, playfully referred to as "Bark" by his mother and others, was in the first graduating class of Newman Smith High School, where he participated in the marching and symphonic bands and served on the newspaper staff for four years. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where he played in the handbell choir for two decades. He worked for many years in distribution for Nieman Marcus before taking a job with the state of Texas, which, though not his birthplace (he was born in Fort Sill, Okla.) was unquestionably his home. Mark remained true to his convictions in all facets of his life, and he truly will be missed. He will be buried in a private graveside ceremony Wednesday at Restland Cemetary. His family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or a preferred charity. Please contact North Dallas Funeral Home at 214-564-8141 for family visitation details.
