  • Obituary*: Of Lloyd Scroggins, Feb 1901, Decatur Herald & Review, Decatur, Macon Co, IL, Decatur Herald & Review, Feb. 1901 reads, A fatal accident occured on the farm of Robert Trigg, northeast of Pana. Lloyd Scroggins, a young man aged 22 years, employed by Mr. Trigg was out in the woods cutting firewood. He cut a tree and in falling, it knocked down a limb from another tree. It was this limb that did the damage. It struck Scroggins on the head knocking him down. He was carried unconscious into his employer's house and medical aid quickly summoned. Everything was done to save the unfortunate young man but of no avail. He died this morning. Deceased was son of William Scroggins, a well known farmer. A distressing feature of the affair was the fact that the young man was to be married this week to a Miss Trigg, daughter of the farmer for whom he worked. Arrangements were all complete for the wedding to occur.4
