Lived and buried in Altmar, Oswego Co., NY.  "The following items, in part,
written by the Editor of the Pulaski Democrat":  Stephen Seamans was born in
Foster, RI, and came to Winfield, Herkimer Co., NY, when a young man, and
moved to the town of Albion about 1838; he was one of the early settlers, and
had much to do with carving the present settled community out of the dense
forests.  He raised a large family, several of his sons served in the war of the
Rebellion, two having died in the Army.  Mr. Seamans now resides near where
he first settled and though nearly 98 years of age, is quite clear mentally a good
deal of the time, and converses with his friends.  The write recently called on him
and was greatly entertained to hear him tell of the things that happened when he
was a lad.  His eyesight is nearly gone and he is quite feeble, but there is much
reason to believe he will live to be a centenarian.  (He didn't though, and this is
what happens when man tries to predict what God has already determined.)
Mr. Seamans had 1 brother, Royal Seamans, living in the same district who died
about 8 years ago at the age of 92 years.  These 2 brothers and their families were
so numberous in the school district where they lived that the district took the name
of Seamans District;  Stephen Seamans is great-uncle of the editor of the
Democrat at Pulaski, NY.
