Scots-Irish

My FOLLIS ancestry tradition is Scots-Irish, those families that moved from Scotland in the 1600's to Ireland before coming to the United States in the 1700's or earlier. My Thomas FALLIS is first found in 1731 New Jersey. One Ancestry.com FALLIS posting mentions 1840's Massachusett's FALLIS' coming from "Fermanagh Ireland moving from Scotland during the Plantation Era during 1600's." As seen in the map above, there is a Follistown in County Meath, Ireland, but unknown if or how is related to our surname.

The words 'Auld Lang Syne' translates from old Scottish dialect meaning 'Old Long Ago' and is about love and friendship in times past.

My ninth great-grandparents John CARY 1610-1681 England to Massachusetts and Elizabeth GODFREY 1620-1680 of Massachusetts.

My eighth great-grandparents Aaron FORMAN before 1637 - after 1698 England to Monmouth County, New Jersey and Dorothy of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York.

Aaron's parents Robert FORMAN 1605-1669 England to Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York and Johanna died before 1672 Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York.

My eighth great-grandparents Thomas THURSTON 1633-1704 England to Massachusetts and Sarah THAXTER 1635-1678 of Massachusetts.

Thomas' parents the immigrant John THURSTON 1600-1685 England to Massachusetts and Margaret about 1605-1662 of Massachusetts. John THURSTON arrived at Boston, Massachusetts on the ship Mary Anne of Yarmouth, England June 20, 1637. It sailed from Ipswich, England in May 1637 with William Goose as ships master. John THURSTON was from Wrentham, England, 30 years old with his 32 year old wife Margaret, sons Thomas and John, and a 23 year old spinster Lucy Poyett.

Sarah's parents were Thomas THAXTER 1594-1653 Plymouth County, Massachusetts and Elizabeth COFFIN 1599-1660 Norfolk, England to Norfolk County, Massachusetts.

Wales

The John VAUGHAN record indicates the immigrant VAUGHAN came from Wales. Most American Vaughan's are said to come from the area around Tretower Castle.
