It appears all of the EIKENBERRY families in America can trace their ancestry to Peter EICHENBERG who originally was thought to have immigrated from Germany when The History and Genealogy of Peter EICHENBERG Family book was published in 1955. Recent research shows he was born in New York and his parents Martiniss EICHENBERG and Anna DORNIN were born in Germany. Another two generations have been found in Germany. Peter EIKENBERRY around 1750 moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he was baptized May 3, 1752 at the Conestoga Congregation of the German Baptist Church, now mostly known as Church of the Brethren. He was a Bishop of the church from at least 1772 to 1795. Around 1790 Peter moved to Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He became a well to do land owner with over 2,000 acres of land by 1800. Some of this land was purchased from Henry LANDIS another ancestor of my FOLLIS families. He sold all of his land by 1806 in preparation for moving to Ohio. In 1806 Peter is listed as a minister of Twin Creek Church in Preble County, Ohio. His wife Fronica GROFF is last mentioned in 1805 and Peter bought land in Ohio in 1807. Peter died in 1812 Preble County, Ohio.

The spelling of the EIKENBERRY family name can be confusing, originally EICHENBERG when arriving in America. EICHELBERGER was found in Pennsylvania. EIKENBERRY is the most common spelling, with EIKENBARY found in my line. ICANBURY and IKENBERRY are common in Virginia as well as sons Peter Jr. and Henry in Ohio. Henry is found as AIKENBERRY in an early Ohio land patent. An old Ohio cemetery burial plot is supposed to have five different spellings for the same family. I would like to find it. If you know which one it is and where it is let me know.
