ASWARBY, a neat and pleasant village and parish on the Falkingham road, 5 miles S. of Sleaford and 4. N. of Falkingham, had 129 inhabitants in 1881, and comprises 1548 acres of fertile land, all(except the glebe,) belonging to Sir Thos. Whichcote, Bart., of Aswarby Hall, a large mansion, which has been enlarged and beautified, and stands in an extensive and well-wooded park. It is in the Parts of Kesteven, Sleaford Union,county court district, and petty sessional division, Ashwardhurn Wapentake, Osbournby polling district of South Lincolnshire, and Lafford No. 2 rural deanery of Lincoln archdeaconry. Its rateable value is £2,194. It was anciently a seat of the Carres, from whom it passed to Sir Francis, grandson of Sir Jeremy Whichcote, solicitor-general to the Elector-Palatine, who was created a baronet by Charles II., at Brussels, in 1600. The CHURCH (St. Denis,) a handsome structure, consists of a lofty nave, north aisle, chancel, soutyh porch, and a fine tower and spire at the west end, containing four bells and a clock. The font is circular, and supported by four pillars, entwined with leaves and tendrils. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £12. 4s. 6d, and now at £400, is in the encumbency of the Rev. Christopher Whichcote, M.A.,rural dean, who is also vicar of Swarby, and has about 47 acres of glebe, and a rectory house, built in 1820. The parish sends one inmate to Sleaford Hospital, and the poor have a yearly rent-charge of £5, out of a farm here, left by Sir Robert Carre, in 1604.

POST OFFICE at Mr. John Hill's. Letters arrive at 7.20 a.m., and are despatched at 4.40 p.m., viâ Falkingham, and 6 a.m. viâ Sleaford. They also arrive at 6.20 p.m., viâ Sleaford. Osbournby is the nearest Money Order Office. Aswarby Station is about one mile from the village.
