Bitten by a Rattlesnake.
Tuesday morning Mr. Thaddeus CADY, an old gentleman about 70 years of age, accompanied by a little girl, went to the river bottom of Mr. S. S. BARBER to get a load of wood.  While chopping wood he was bitten by a large rattlesnake on the calf of the leg.  He killed the snake and cut off the rattles and gave them to the little girl and started to town.  While going through a gate the wagon became fastened on a port and Mr. CADY in endeavoring to get out, fell to the ground overcome by the poison.  The little girl ran to a house near by and secured assistance.  Mr. CADY was brought to town in an unconscious condition and at 4:20 p.m. died from the effects of the bite.  The snake had ten rattles.  Mr. CADY was buried Wednesday evening.  Several rattlesnakes had been killed previously in the bottom by men cutting wood.  The fangs of the snake were driven through his pants and underclothing, and the wounds were about an inch and a half apart.

     HARWOOD HAPPENINGS.
     November 26, 1890
Editors Inquirer.--With much regret we communicate the sad death of Mr. W. H. CADY'S son aged thirteen years.  He was playing at school two and one-half miles northeast of Harwood lastFriday.  He and other boys were riding on a flying jennet when the pin broke and caught him under the leaver striking him just behind the ear breaking his neck and crushing his breast, producing instant death.  We expect to see some boy killed here almost every day by jumping on trains while in motion.  The railroad company is not responsible for the acts of others and parents should guard against such accidents as might occur.
Note:  This is Thadius S. CADY, son of William Henry CADY and Isabelle Fredonia (MCCARTY) CADY.

WILLIAM HENRY CADY DEAD
Pioneer Resident of Gonzales County Passes Away
William Henry CADY was born Aug. 22, 1850, in the State of Vermont, and was the son of Thadeus and Sarah CADY.  While yet a child he removed with his parents to Michigan where the family remained until young CADY ws 15.  From there the family came to Missouri, later to Kansas, from which State the deceased came in advance of his parents to Texas, passing through San Antonia when there were only a few adobe houses there, and arriving at a section of the country about halfway between Luling and Belmont.  In the latter community he met Miss Isabelle MCCARTY, whom he later married.  After one year the young couple located in their own home two and one half miles north of Harwood, where they resided for forty years and where their large family of ten children were born, save the eldest, a son, and who was accidently killed when he was 13 years of age.  The children surviving with their mother are:  Mrs. R. P. SMITH, Gonzales; Miss Ruth CADY, weimar; Mrs. c. A. GRAVES, gonzales; F. C. CADY, Harwood; Mrs. Roy BUNTON, Gonzales; Mrs. W. E. DENMAN, slayden; Mrs. W. G. Spencer, Harwood; W. L. CADY, Harlingen, and Mrs. Wm. CLEVELAND, Gonzales.
Besides these there are 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
Mr. CADY belonged to the old school which is rapidly now passing away.  No happier home was to be found throughout these forty years when the children were growing to maturity than was the CADY home, so say the nine living children with one voice.
Mr. CADY was converted some 30 years ago at Harwood and united with the Methodist church at that place, where he remained a member at the time of his death.
Death came Thursday evening at about 9 o'clock.
Funeral services will be conducted from the family residence this afternoon at 4:30 by Dr. Smith, pastor of the First Baptist church.
