1Editor,(?), Death Art-Sisco,Emily, Wabash Plain Dealer, 24 Oct 2000, Wabash Carnagie Library, Hill Street, Wabash,Ind. 46992, Publication Date: Aug 9,1990. "LAGRO TEEN KILLED BY TRAIN LAGRO - A Lagro girl was killed here Wednesday night when she ran into the side of a fast-moving freight train. The girl, Emily Sisco, 17, suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Wabash County Coroner, Dr. Dean Clifford. The accident occurred at 9:37 p.m. at the Norfolk Southern Railroad Crossing on Ind. 524, just south of U.S. 24, the Wabash County Sheriff's Department said. They indicated that Miss Sisco, her sister and two friends were en route to a grocery store at the U.S. 24 intersection. The other three were on bikes and had gone on ahead. The report indicates Miss Sisco was running and, not seeing the westbound freight, ran into the side of the engine. Sheriff Larry Rice said the train was probably traveling between 50 and 60 mph. The report indicates the crossing is marked by crossing arms and they were down at the time of the accident. Rice said Miss Sisco was in street clothes and not attired as a jogger as some rumors Wednesday night had it. Just hours after the fatality here, another pedestrian in the state was killed when struck by a freight train. Berry S. Landez, 28, of Kendallville was struck about 12:20 a.m. today by an eastbound train as he walked along the tracks about 12 miles east of Park Avenue crossing in Kendallville. Noble County authorities said Landez was pronounced dead at the scene.".
