A lifelong resident of Scott County, Va., she was born on Aug. 24, 1941, and was a housewife. Mrs. Darnell was a member of Rivermont Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Eugene Darnell and father, Johnny Edwards. Surviving are her husband, Emmitt J. Darnell, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Joe Sanders, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; granddaughter, Christy Sanders; mother, Lovely June Hall Edwards, Gray; sisters, Margaret Ervin, Gate City, Va., Anna Lee Ward, Weber City, Va., Nancy Crawford and Barbara Roberts, both of Jonesborough, Judith Childress, Kingsport, Cecile Hill, Johnson City; brothers, Billy Edwards, Freddie Edwards, Delmar Edwards, Patton Edwards and Jackie Edwards, all of Gray, Johnny Edwards, Gate City, Va., Jimmy Edwards, Greeneville, Scotty Edwards, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and anytime at her daughter�s residence. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. F.M. Brown and the Rev. Jim Price officiating. Music will be by Homeward Bound. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hill Cemetery in the Hill Station community. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.".

She was born on Dec. 9, 1931, in West Virginia to Jeff and Belle Nelson. She married Mathew Lucas, Jr. on July 9, 1972, in Wise, Va. He survives. Mrs. Lucas had lived in Wabash approximately 30 years. She retired from B. Walter & Company, after approximately 15 years service. She was a member of the Wabash Free Will Baptist Church at Erie Street. Also surviving are one son, Larry Slone, Allen, Ky.; five stepsons, Don W. Lucas, Wabash, Dale R. Lucas, Harrisville, Mich., Rick Lucas, St. Peters, Mo., Sgt. Sam Lucas, Okinawa, Japan, and Dan R. Lucas, Alma, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Laymond (Ina) Mauldon, Fairmount, and Mrs. Betty Lucas, Portland, Ark.; three sisters, Mrs. Morgan (Glynnis) Rose, Wabash, Josephine Ruffell and Susie Larner, both of Ontario, N.Y.; one grandchild; 17 stepgrandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wabash Free Will Baptist Church at Erie St. The Rev. Bobby Webb will officiate. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery.
