Bowling, 86, retired miner and farmer of Van Lear, died at 4:30 p.m., Monday, December 5, (1960) at his home following a two years' illness. The son of the late Bailey and Silve'rna Cantrell Bowling, he was born in Morgan County and had lived at Van Lear for the past forty years. Surviving are four sons, Grover, Elijah, Estill and Sewell Bowling, all at home, five daughters, Mrs. Dorcas Honeycutt, Mrs. Ida Butcher, Mrs. Emma Ward and Mrs. Rowland Wells, all of Van Lear, Mrs. Pearl Butcher, Wabash, Ind.; six brothers Joe and James Bowling, Van Lear; John Bowling, Morgan County; Mance Bowling, Beaver Creek; Amos Bowling, Paintsville; Boyd Bowling, Sitka; four sisters, Mrs. Clarinda Ward and Mrs. Rissie Dawson, both of Van Lear; Mrs. Nancy Johnson, Paintsville; Mrs. Bet Blair, Jennies Creek. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday from the Van Lear Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. S. C. Honeycutt as officiating minister. Burial was in the Richmond Family cemetery at Van Lear. The Paintsville Herald Wednesday Dec. 7, 1960.".
