            Rhea T. Arnold, 81, Kingsport. 

            KINGSPORT - Rhea Thomas Arnold, 81, of 204 Thomas Street, passed 
            away Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at his home after a period of 
            declining health. 
            Rhea was born Nov. 2, 1919 in Scott County, Va., a son of the late 
            L.D. and Trula Bradshaw Arnold. He was retired from Penn-Dixie after 
            38 years of service. 
            He was a proud veteran serving his country during World War II with 
            the U.S. Army. 
            He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion, a present 
            member of the Odd Fellows of Gate City, an avid hunter, fisherman 
            and gardener. He loved and enjoyed his wonderful grandchildren. 
            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 
            1987, Jeanette Price Arnold; a granddaughter, Sarah Rae Pafford in 
            1998. 
            Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Don (Pat) 
            Pafford and Mrs. Mike S. (Delphia) Richards, all of Kingsport; two 
            sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy Rhea Arnold and wife Barbara, 
            Kingsport, and Greg Arnold and wife Sue, Clinchport, Va.; 
            grandchildren, James Matthew Pafford, Jason Andrew Pafford and 
            Michael Steven Richards II; a sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Billy 
            H. (Lucille) Bishop, Gate City, Va.; three brothers and 
            sisters-in-law, Ben (Curt) Arnold and wife Jane, L.G. (Buck) Arnold, 
            and Emory Arnold and wife Julie, all of Gate City, Va.; several 
            nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the East Lawn 
            Funeral Home, and anytime at the residence. 
            Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Robert Parker Jr. and the Rev. Paul Blessing 
            officiating. 
            Burial will follow in th East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of 
            the Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by the American 
            Legion Hammond Post No. 3. 
            Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

            SNEEDVILLE - Services for Georgia Begley, who entered into rest 
            Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the 
            Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home with the Rev. 
            Eckel Herron officiating. 
            Music will be provided by Junior Smith and the Family Tradition. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 
            Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va. 
            Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

            Fannie Blankenship, 98, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Fannie A. Blankenship, 98, entered into rest 
            Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at her residence. 
            She was born June 2, 1903 in Scott County, Va., to the late James 
            Monroe and Sarah Reed Snodgrass. 
            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
            Charles Lynard Blankenship; daughter, Betty Blankenship; two 
            sisters; and five brothers. 
            She was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church. 
               
            Surviving are her daughters, Mary Lynn Dunham and Charlotte Gay, 
            both of Gate City, Va.; sister, Knox Hash, Gate City, Va.; five 
            grandchildren, Diane Cassell, Karla Elliott, Robert C. Gay, Janie 
            Seaver and Bettilyn Ford; 10 great-grandchildren and four 
            great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many loving 
            friends. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Gate City United 
            Methodist Church, Gate City, Va. 
            Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Jim 
            Harless and the Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating. 
            Music will be provided by the church choir. 
            Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, 
            Va. 
            Pallbearers will be family and friends.

            Juanita Bostic, 77, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Juanita Bostic, 77, passed away Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) 
            at Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn., after a courageous battle with 
            leukemia. 
            Juanita was born on Aug. 1, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Ed 
            and Virginia Olinger. She was a member of Gravely Baptist Church and 
            Gravely Ruritan. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and 
            great-grandmother who adored her family, who in return greatly 
            adored her. She highly enjoyed caring for those she loved and even 
            during her last days, she showed that compassion time and time 
            again. 
            She was an avid collector of knickknacks including thimbles and 
            bells but was most proud of her beautiful collection of birdhouses 
            which she proudly displayed in her home. We will all miss her 
            stories, her wonderful cooking, her smile, her spirit, but most of 
            all, we will just miss her being with us. "We love you, Granny, and 
            will miss you forever." 
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
            husband, Everett Bostic; her sisters, Helen Cox and Myrtle Taylor; 
            her brothers, Roy Olinger and Paul Olinger. 
            Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Mullins and husband Sam, 
            and Tammy Bostic; her son, James Fleenor and wife Carolyn; her 
            granddaughters, Connie McReynolds and husband Doug, Tina Taylor and 
            husband Mark; her grandsons, Michael Fleenor and Sammy Mullins; six 
            great-grandchildren, Jessica Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Hunter 
            McReynolds, Colton McReynolds, Austin McReynolds and Mahaley 
            McReynolds; and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Paul (Ludy) Olinger; 
            stepchildren, Tommy Bostic, Charlie Bostic and wife Robbie, Bob 
            Bostic and wife Kate, Mary Jane McKinney; and several 
            stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral 
            Home. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Ralph Crawford officiating. 
            Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Tri-Cities 
            Memory Gardens with the Rev. David Salley officiating.

            graveside service.

            Adeline Caudell, 79, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Adeline Byington Caudell, 79, of Kingsport, passed away 
            Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            She was born in Castlewood, Va. She was a graduate of Temple Hill 
            High School and also West Virginia Business College, Bluefield, 
            W.Va. 
            She worked for Pocahontas Fuel Company of Pocahontas, Va. She 
            retired from Giant Food Markets office in Kingsport. 
            She was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church where she was Sunday 
            School teacher for several years. She was a member of Liberty 
            Chapter No. 198 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a loving mother, 
            grandmother, sister, friend and neighbor. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Caudell in 
            1955; her parents, John and Beatrice Robinson Byington. 
               
            Surviving are one daughter, Linda Caudell Tipton and her husband, 
            B.J. Tipton, Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, Lawrence Byington and his 
            wife, Velma, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Michael Tipton and wife, 
            Stacy, Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and Angela Tipton Campbell and husband, 
            Kirk, Cleveland, Tenn.

            KINGSPORT - Carolyn Sue Condry, 1000 Stonegate Road, Apt. L10, went 
            to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at her residence 
            following a lengthy illness. 
            She resided most of her life in Kingsport and was a member of State 
            Line Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nadine Condry; 
            a son, Shannon Benton; three brothers, Jack Condry, Jerry Condry and 
            Curtis Condry; and a granddaughter, Summer Benton. 
               
            Survivors include five daughters, Rhonda Morelock, Dee Davis, Sissy 
            Benton, Misty Benton and Bobbie Sue Benton; grandchildren, Jeremy 
            Ashmore, Josh Ashmore, Nathan Morelock, Lynn Compton, Robert Frost 
            and Summer Nadine Hood; adopted grandchildren, Shenna Condry, Robert 
            Condry, Jeffery Condry, Stormy Condry, Ericka Johnson, Ashley 
            Johnson, Stephanie White, Dakota White, Sara Brooks, Jessica Light, 
            Dustin White, Kayla White and Cody Roberts; five sisters, Betty

            Evelyn Courtney, 76, Rogersville. 

            ROGERSVILLE - Mrs. Evelyn Early Courtney, 76, 308 W. Broadway, 
            passed away Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Church Hill Life Care after a 
            long illness. 
            She had worked in several restaurants in Rogersville as a cook, but 
            retired from the BASF Corp. at Lowland. 
            She was of the Baptist faith. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Worley and Myrtle Olinger 
            Stidham; husbands, James Early and Carson Courtney; son, Billy 
            Early; and sisters, Ora Alder and Virginia Ludrick. 
            Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tommy Wade, 
            Rogersville; grandson and wife, Michael and Joy Wade, Greeneville; 
            great-granddaughters, Miranda and Sierra Wade, Bristol, Tenn.; one 
            sister, Loretta Franks, Lafayette, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.

            Betty Jo Edmondson, 73, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Betty Jo Doggett Edmondson, 73, went to be with the Lord 
            Wednesday morning (Oct. 31, 2001) at her home after an extended 
            illness. 
            Born in Abingdon, Va., she had resided in Kingsport most of her 
            life. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and 
            Peabody College at Vanderbilt. Mrs. Edmondson retired from the 
            Kingsport City School System where she taught fourth grade at 
            Washington Elementary for 30 years. 
            She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and the Kingsport 
            Retired Teachers Association. 
            Her husband, W.E. (Gene) Edmondson; and parents, Ralph and Susie 
            Lowry Doggett, preceded her in death. 
               
            Survivors include two sons, W.E. (Bill) Edmondson II, Kingsport, and 
            Joseph D. Edmondson, Lawrenceville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Malisha 
            Edmondson and Sean Edmondson; a brother and sister-in-law, Lowry and 
            Willa Doggett, Kingsport; an aunt, Margaret Doggett Rion, Kingsport; 
            two nieces Mrs. Larry (Janet) LaFleur and Mrs. Tim (Julie) Vaughn; 
            one nephew, Lee Lovely; special friends, Jean Bridwell, Pansy Hyder 
            and Peggy Treadway.

            Joe Fischer, 93, Norton, Va.

            NORTON, Va. - Joe Fischer, 93, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at 
            Norton Community Hospital. 
            Mr. Fischer was born in Dorchester, Va., to the late Frank and 
            Paulina Fischer. He made Norton his home most of his life, where he 
            was a member and elder of the Norton Presbyterian Church. 
            He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Saugus 
            in the Pacific Theatre, and was a retired letter carrier with the 
            U.S. Postal Service with 46 years of service. During his mail 
            delivery days, he proudly estimated that he walked the equivalent of 
            three times around the circumference of the earth. 
            An avid HAM radio operator (W4CFV), Joe was fondly remembered by 
            family and friends for his widespread civic service, which included 
            56 years with the Norton Fire Department. Joe served as treasurer 
            for over 45 years and remained active with the department until his 
            death. 
            He joined the Masonic Lodge No. 259 AF & AM in 1961, and also was a 
            member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, the Modern 
            Woodsmen of America, the United Commercial Travelers, and the former 
            Imperial Order of the Redman, and the Moose Lodge. In 1992, he was 
            commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, and he received his 65-year 
            service pin with the Pocahontas Rebekah Lodge No. 24 of Coeburn. Joe 
            was a charter member of the American Legion Post in Norton and a 
            member of the VFW Post No. 4301. 
            He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Fred Ray Edens Sr. 
            Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Eva Wells Fischer; two brothers, 
            Frank Fischer and his wife, Rose, of Norton, and Paul Fischer, of 
            Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hagy-Fawbush Funeral 
            Home in Norton. 
            Suther's Lodge No. 259 AF & AM will conduct Masonic services at 8 
            p.m.

            with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers.

            Bradford Gorsage, 46, Norton, Va.

            NORTON, Va. - Bradford Ray Gorsage, 46, died Monday (Oct. 29, 2001) 
            at his residence in Jacksonville, Fla. 
            He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve in Jacksonville, and was an 
            avid fisherman. 
            Surviving are his parents, W.R. (Doc) and Ruth Gorsage, Norton; 
            brother, Mark E. Gorsage, Jacksonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, 
            Becky and Brian Palulis, Norfolk, Va., and Debbie and John McQueen, 
            Norton; sister, Cindy Ashcroft, Norton; two nieces and five nephews; 
            two great-nieces; and his pet dog, "Trouble."

            Funeral Home in Norton.

            Dr. Robert Hodge, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Dr. Robert Hodge, 2229 Swannanoa Avenue, died at 12:30 
            a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) after a courageous battle with 
            cancer. 
            He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and served as a Captain of 
            the U.S. Air Force for two years. 
            Dr. Hodge was a dentist in Kingsport for over 40 years serving 
            thousands of patients in the community. 
            He was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church where he served 
            on the board of deacons and elders. 
            Dr. Hodge was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Kingsport and was very 
            active in community affairs for many years. 
            His parents, Dr. Vernon Hodge and Joyce Hodge; and his sister, 
            Mildred Johnson, preceded him in death. 
               
            Survivors include his wife, Joanne Hurd Hodge, Kingsport; three 
            sons, Judge Steven H. Jones and wife, Virginia, Thomas Scott Jones 
            and Rob Hodge, all of Kingsport; and six grandchildren, Brad, Jason, 
            Wesley Jones; Linly, Brandy, Kylie and Melinda.

            Mary Etta Lawson, 64, Dryden, Va.

            DRYDEN, Va. - Mary Etta Lawson, 64, went peacefully to her heavenly 
            home on Monday (Oct. 29, 2001) at her residence surrounded by her 
            family. 
            Mrs. Lawson was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and 
            great-grandmother, who always put her family first. 
            Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Deep Springs Missionary Baptist 
            Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Annie Lou 
            Dearry; and two brothers, David and William Junior Dearry. 
            Surviving are her loving husband of 45 years, Billy Gene Lawson of 
            Dryden, Va.; two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Tester and 
            husband, Tommy of Duffield, Va., Emma Marsee and husband, Junior of 
            Dryden, Va.; six beautiful grandchildren: two grandsons, Jeremy 
            Tester of Duffield, Va., Todd Marsee of Dryden, Va.; four 
            granddaughters, Alissa Thacker and husband, Brandon of Big Stone 
            Gap, Va., Jennifer Tester, Amanda Tester and Paige Tester, all of 
            Duffield, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Jacelyn, Austin and Kylie 
            Thacker, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; also surviving are a host of 
            aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

            MOULTRIE, Ga. - Services for Gary Benjamin Ledbetter, 57, who passed 
            away Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in 
            the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, with 
            the Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

            Nina McKinley, 96, Owensboro, Ky. 

            OWENSBORO, Ky. - Nina Howard McKinley, 96, of 2701 Frederica Street, 
            died Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Owensboro Mercy Health System. 
            The Harlan, Ky., native was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, a 
            graduate of the University of Kentucky, a former school teacher and 
            florist owner in Harlan, and was a member of the Daughters of the 
            American Revolution. 
            Her husband, John Henry McKinley, died in 1990. 
            Survivors include a son, RADM John Henry McKinley Jr. USNR (Ret.) of 
            Kingsport; two daughters, Mary Lovett of Owensboro, and Nancy East 
            of Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Dr. Smith Howard of Harlan, Ky., and 
            Dr. Turner Howard of Knoxville; eight grandchildren and 11 
            great-grandchildren.

            67, of 413 Old Union Road, who passed away Monday (Oct. 29, 2001),

            KINGSPORT - Mary Irene Reed, born Aug. 14, 1938, went to be with the 
            Lord Sunday (Oct. 28, 2001) after a courageous battle with cancer. 
            Born in Hawkins County, she lived most of her life in Sullivan 
            County. 
            She was preceded in death by her father, Hatcher William Doran; one 
            brother, Jack Preston Doran; her first husband, Homer Larry Gilbert;

            Surviving are her mother, Irene Doran; son and daughter-in-law, Rick 
            and Becky Gilbert; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Janie Gilbert; 
            daughter, Kathy Gilbert; grandchildren, Rachel, Barton, William and 
            Will; and several nieces and nephews. 
            The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the 
            sanctuary of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, located off Hwy. 75 in 
            Gray. 
            A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the church 
            by Pastor Robert Fultz and various friends. 
            In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist 
            AWANA and/or Johnson City Medical Center Hospice. 

            Elgie Stallard, Norton, Va. 

            NORTON, Va. - Elgie Jackson Stallard, died Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) 
            at Norton Community Hospital. She would have been 93 on November 3. 
            She was born and lived her entire life in Wise County, Va. She was a 
            member of Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church where she served as 
            treasurer for many years. 
            She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. 
            She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Ivory 
            T. Stallard. She was also prececed in death by her parents, Joseph 
            and Nancy Hayes Jackson; four brothers, Garson, Cecil, Johnny and 
            Elvin; and an infant sister. 
            Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Katherine 
            Stallard, Norton, Va., and Rodney and Deloras Stallard, Wellington, 
            Ky.; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Frank Shortridge, 
            Manassas, Va., and Patricia and Edward Gardner, Newsoms, Va.; nine 
            grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine 
            stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-stepgrandchild; four 
            sisters, Drusilla Varner, Pound, Va., Laura Fletcher, Johnson City, 
            Nora Davis, Charleston, W.Va., and Correna Patton and husband 
            Clayton, Front Royal, Va.; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Jackson, Pound, 
            Va., and Vie Jackson, Charleston, W.Va.; also a dear sister-in-law, 
            Edna Johnson and husband John, Clintwood, Va. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Glady Fork Church with a 
            song service at 7 p.m. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the 
            Rev. Troy Belcher and the Rev. John Johnson officiating. 
            Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pound, Va. 
            Friends will serve as pallbearers. 
            Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va., is in charge of arrangements. 

            Hazel Tittsworth, 84, Gate City, Va. 

            GATE CITY, Va. - Hazel Pratt Tittsworth, 84, entered into eternal 
            rest Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            She was born April 28, 1917 in Fonde, Ky., to the late Burt Thomas 
            Pratt and Sophia Fielden Pratt. She retired from Sears Robuck 
            Company. 
            Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 
            John Roller Tittsworth; two brothers, Hubert "Pete" Pratt and Frank 
            Pratt. 
               
            Survivors include three sons, George (Tom) and Linda Tittsworth, 
            Kingsport, Ben and Linda Tittsworth, Gate City, Va., and Charlie and 
            Marilyn Tittsworth, Memphis, Tenn.; stepsister, Jewell Riggs, 
            Kingsport; grandchildren, Tony Tittsworth and Jeff Tittsworth, Lisa 
            Scott, Marla Tittsworth, Ashley Garrett, John Tittsworth; seven 
            great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gate City Funeral Home. 

            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the Gene Falin 
            Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Copeland and 
            the Rev. Don Large officiating. 
            Music will be provided by Kathryn Haynes and Martha June McGee. 
            Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holston View 
            Cemetery, Weber City, Va. 
            The family will be meeting at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral 
            home to go in procession to the cemetery. 
            Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Tittsworth to 
            the Prospect United Methodist Church, Rt. 7, Box 1304, Gate City, 
            Va. 24251. 
            Vance Tittsworth, Lloyd Grimm, Gary Pratt, Tommy Pratt, Johnny 
            Haynes and Ivan Taylor will serve as pallbearers. 
            Bill Bledsoe, Phil Taylor, Jimmy Tittsworth, James McGee, Roy McGee, 
            Burl Jones, Jimmy Haynes and Glen Winegar will serve as honorary 
            pallbearers.
