her second husband, Sam Brewer; a daughter, Evelyn; her parents, Dan

Andrew Jack Catron; and sister, Mabel Combs.
Survivors include her sister, Francis Stubblefield, Rogersville;

- Jakella Nicole Horton, 23, formerly of Kingsport, died
Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) as a result of injuries sustained in an
automobile accident in Rutherford County.
She was a native of Kingsport and a 1996 honor graduate of
Dobyns-Bennett High School. Jakella was an active member of Shiloh
Baptist Church before leaving Kingsport.
She graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with
honors, receiving a bachelor of science degree in Interior Design.
She was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society's Chapter
at UTC.
Jakella was employed by Sprintz Furniture Showroom in Franklin,
Tenn., as an interior designer.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Frank and
Barbara Horton; and an uncle, Stewart Allen Horton.
Surviving are her parents, David and Julia Horton, Kingsport; one
sister, Janean Horton, Nashville; grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs.
George Byrd, Knoxville; and a special loving friend, Roman
Carpenter, Nashville; godmother, Vanessa Springs, Alpharetta, Ga.;
goddaughter, Bianca Horton, Knoxville; a special cousin, Omar
Delaney, of Germany; great-aunt, Virginia Patrick, Kingsport; and

evening (Nov. 4, 2001) at Ridgeview Terrace Nursing Home following
an extended illness.
He was a member of Liberty Church of God, and was a retired truck
driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Orpha Howard;
two infant children; and one brother, Eugene Howard.

- Jody Wynona Johnson, 27, 122 E. Sevier St., found her
peace Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2001).
Born in Lakeland, Fla., Jody moved to Kingsport with her family in
1980 and attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and Barton's School of
Cosmetology.
Jody is survived by her parents, Randy and Kim Wyatt; her natural
father, Wesley Johnson, Florida; her brothers, Frank Hayes, Gate
City, Va., Ben, Michael, Kasey Wyatt and Jonah Wyatt Onkotz, of the
home. She is also survived by her sisters, Wendy Pemble, Joliet,
Ill., and Kirsten Elizabeth Wyatt, of the home; her maternal
grandparents, Bob and Wynona Francisco, Lakeland, Fla., and paternal
grandmother, Francis Knight, Polk City, Fla; numerous aunts, uncles
and cousins in Tennessee and Florida also survive the "Perfect
Rose." Also surviving are a child she considered her own, Reece
Herron.
Arrangements were made by Jody prior to her death that no memorial
service be held. Her friends are invited to celebrate her life at
her parent's home at a later date.

CITY, Va. - Bertha Virginia Larkey Johnston, 87, died Sunday
afternoon (Nov. 4, 2001) following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Maces Springs, Va., on Oct. 20, 1914 to David E. and
Maggie Belle Hilton Larkey.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dock S. Johnston in
1978. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
parents; and brothers and sisters, Laura L. Moody, John J. Larkey,
Clarence Larkey, Mattie L. Salyers, Bernice L. Leonard Jennings,
Edith L. Barker and Kenneth A. Larkey.
She last resided in Weber City, Va., and had lived most of her life
in Lee, Wise and Scott Counties. She was a faithful member of
Holston View United Methodist Church, Weber City, Va. She worked as
a sales clerk for years in Kingsport and Weber City.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Mary Lou and William
M. McSpadden, Kingsport, Keith and Gloria Johnston, Kingsport, Judy
and Mark D. Musick, Atlanta, Ga., and Terri and John F. Culbertson,
Kingsport; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth M. Hunt, William M. McSpadden

Born Nov. 12, 1926 in Sullivan County, Minnie was a daughter of the
late James (Jim) Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Lane Martin. She was the
widow of Clint Grady Proffitt.
Minnie was custodian at Thomas Jefferson School and a member of
Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
a brother, Charlie Martin.
Minnie is survived by her loving family, Mrs. Dwight (Leona) Browder
and Cathy Marsh, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Henry (Darlene Taylor)
Powers Jr. of Melbourne, Fla., and Mrs. Keith (Patricia) Manis of

Va. - Flora Jane Fannon Robinette, 92, widow of Cecil
Glenn Robinette, passed away Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at the Duffield
Residence Center, Duffield, Va.
Flora, the daughter of William Charles Fannon and Ara C. Fraley
Fannon, was born in Lee County, Va., on June 21, 1909. She attended
Radford College and began teaching in a one-room classroom in Lee
County in 1928. She later taught in Scott County for several years.
She lived in Duffield with her family before moving to Big Stone Gap
after World War II. After Mr. Robinette retired, they moved to
Staunton, Va., from 1975 until Mr. Robinette's death in 1994.
She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church and, while living in
Staunton, was a very active member of the Fishersville Baptist
Church, Fishersville, Va.
Surviving are her son, Charles Glenn Robinette and his wife, Sally
Sutherland Robinette, and grandchildren, C. George and Clare Lewis
Robinette, all of Knoxville. Also she is survived by one daughter,
Mary Jane Robinette Selph of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, John Glenn
Selph, Richmond, Va.; and a granddaughter, Ellen Catherine Selph of
Gurnee, Ill. One of 13 children, Flora is survived by a sister, Mary
Billings of Oklahoma; two brothers, Fred Fannon of Charlotte Court
House, and Morris F. Fannon of Pennington Gap, Va. She is survived
by 13 nieces and 11 nephews.

- Everette Eugene Shelton, 75, went home to be with the
Lord on Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at his home.
Everette was born in Virginia on Aug. 16, 1926, a son of the late
Mary Frances Light.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Kingsport Iron
and Metal Company after 45 years of service.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his first
wife Betty Shelton.
Surviving are his wife of 15 years, Alice Marie Dingus Shelton of
the home; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Delmar (Kathleen) Qualls; a stepson

He was born April 27 1934, the son of the late L.R. Sr. and Mae
Trent.
He professed faith in Christ at an early age and attended Trent
Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister,
Sue Peters.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Trent (deceased Nov. 4, 2001);
brothers, Ben Trent, of New Market, Tenn., and Kenneth Trent
(deceased Nov. 2, 2001); sisters, Juanita Rodgers, Persia, Tenn.,
Viva Johns, Treadway, Tenn., and Phyllis Price, Gray; very special
and devoted young men, Johnny Seal, Gerald Seal and wife Tonya,

Stella M. Trent, 63, passed away Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at the
University of Tennessee Hospital as a result of an automobile
accident.
She was born Oct. 19, 1938, the daughter of the late Will and Bertha
Munsey.
She professed faith in Christ at an early age and lived by the
Baptist faith. She attended Trent Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, L.R. Trent Jr.; brother-in-law, Ray Southern; niece and
nephew, Lucy Crouch and Eddie Southern.
Surviving are her sisters, Eula Southern, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.,
Beulah Edds, Tazewell, Tenn., and Dorothy England, Jefferson City;
very special and devoted young men, Johnny Seal, Gerald Seal and

Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Waller; son,
Johnny Waller; parents, Milburn and Viola Adams; sisters, Flossie
Roberts, Edith Beck, Victory Hughes; brothers, Rome Adams, Rico
Adams, and Worley Adams.
Surviving are her daughter, Janice Mellons, Blountville; sons, Dean
Waller, Kingsport, Dale Waller, Blountville, Earl Waller,
Elizabethton; sister, Clara Barton, Baileyton; brothers, Clarence
Adams, Jonesborough, Bob Adams, Greeneville; several grandchildren
and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Ethel Hurd Willis, of 5264 Highway 11W,
Rogersville, who went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001),
will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Hawkins County Memorial
Gardens.

- Johnnie H. Wray died Monday morning (Nov. 5, 2001) at
her home after a long, rich and productive life.
Born in Hamblen County, she had resided in Kingsport most of her
life. Mrs. Wray attended Carson-Newman College and graduated from
East Tennessee State Teachers College. She retired in 1976 from the
Kingsport City School System where she taught social studies at John
Sevier and Ross N. Robinson Junior High Schools.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and
had been actively involved in Presbyterian Women, Clothes Closet,
and Meals on Wheels.
Her parents, John T. and Opha Hardy; a sister, Edna Winstead; and a
brother, Jake Hardy, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, William T. "Tommy" Wray Sr., Kingsport;
one daughter, Susan D. Wray, Seattle, Wash.; one son and
daughter-in-law, William T. Wray Jr. and Gwen Wray, Kingsport; two
grandchildren, Katye Wray and Will Wray; two sisters, Blanche
Hamilton, Hamblen County, Lula Belle "Girlie" Hale, Whitesburg; one
brother, James Brown Hardy, White Pine; and several nieces and
nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Oak
Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson
Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Gary L.R. Bullard officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be retired teachers of the Kingsport City
Schools.

- Mr. Samuel Vestal "S.V." Wright Jr., 76, 253 Charlie
Dillow Road, died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at his residence following a
lengthy illness.
A Washington County native of the Conklin community, Mr. Wright was
the son of the late Sam and Mary Humphreys Wright.
He was a former employee of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and a
farmer. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Wright attended Mt. Wesley Methodist Church and was a member of
Enon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane G. Wright, of the home; one son and
daughter-in-law, Greg and Nancy Wright, Telford; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Martha and Mike Burleson and Bebe and Marty Street, all
of Telford; mother-in-law, Dorothy Garland, Limestone; grandsons,
Benjamin Garrett and Samuel Wright; granddaughter, Roxie Street;
stepgrandsons, Alex Street and Brandon Burleson; stepgranddaughter,
Jennifer Burleson; two sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy Phillips,
Joann and Emil Messimer, all of Jonesborough; one brother and
sister-in-law, Dick and Barbara Wright, Telford; and sisters-in-law,
Ann Banks, Kingsport, and Carolyn McCracken, Gray; and several

Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Va.
She was a lifelong resident of the Coeburn area and a member of the
Crab Orchard Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Leafie Ann
Adkins Slemp.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Donnie Frank,
