            ROGERSVILLE - Services for Bertha Viola Brewer, 93, who went to be 
            with the Lord at 10 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 3, 2001), will be conducted 
            at 8 p.m. today in the Colboch-Price Chapel, Rogersville, with 
            Marshall Stubblefield officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home or 
            anytime at the home of her daughter, 106 Petersburg Road, Greenbriar 
            Village Apt. 17. 
            Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland 
            Cemetery. 

            Donnie D. Dotson, 56, Pound, Va.

            POUND, Va. - Donnie D. Dotson, 56, passed away Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) 
            at St. Mary's Hospital, Norton, Va. 
            He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving in the U.S. Army, 
            and was an employee of Steven R. Mullins Excavating Co. as a heavy 
            equipment operator. 
            He was of the Freewill Baptist faith. 
            He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Sue Powers Dotson; and 
            his father, Cossie Dotson. 
            Surviving are three daughters, Karen Renae Dotson of Wise, Va., 
            Donna Brodie of East Windsor, N.J., and India Dotson of the home; 
            two sons, Donivan T. Dotson of Elon, N.C., and Dustin D. Dotson of 
            the home; his mother, Audrey Yates Dotson of Wise, Va.; one sister, 
            Violetta Hopkins of Morristown, Tenn.; one brother, Connie Dotson of 
            Wise, Va.; and three grandchildren, Brandon Dotson, Cameron Dotson 
            and Ryan Blake Dotson. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, 
            Wise, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Roger Freeman officiating. 
            Burial will follow in the Powers Family Cemetery in Pound, with 
            military rites being conducted by VFW Post No. 9600 of Pound, and 
            American Legion Post No. 66 of Jenkins, Ky. 

            Pearl Grigsby, 85, La Mesa, Calif.

            LA MESA, Calif. - Pearl Marie Grigsby, 85, 7964 High St., died 
            Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001). 
            Born in Gate City, Va., she moved to Leesburg, Fla., from Kingsport 
            in 1946 and in July of 2000 moved to California. She was a 
            homemaker. 
            She was a member of Lisbon Baptist Church, the VFW Auxiliary and DAV 
            Auxiliary of Eustis, Fla. 
            Surviving are three sons, Robert C. Grigsby, Leesburg, Fla., Johnnie 
            R. Grigsby, Umatilla, Fla., and Jimmie L. Grigsby, La Mesa, Calif.; 
            a daughter, Judy Smith, Leesburg, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 12 
            great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, 
            John H. Williams, Kingsport; sisters, Lola Minnick, Kingsport, 
            Shirley Reed, Tampa, Fla., and Rose Cooper, Kingsport. 
            Beyers Funeral Home & Crematory, Leesburg, Fla., is in charge of the 
            arrangements. 

            William L. Howard, 66, Bulls Gap.

            BULLS GAP - Services for William L. Howard, 66, who went to be with 
            the Lord Sunday evening (Nov. 4, 2001), will be conducted at 4:30 
            p.m. today at Liberty Church of God, on Gap Creek Road, with the 
            Rev. Mark Renner officiating. 
            The family will receive friends at the church until the time of the 
            service. 
            Interment will follow in the Gulley Cemetery.

            Bertha Johnston, 87, Weber City, Va.

            WEBER CITY, Va. - Graveside services for Bertha Virginia Larkey 
            Johnston, 87, who died Sunday afternoon (Nov. 4, 2001), will be at 
            Holston View Cemetery at 11 a.m. today. 
            Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. 
            Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 
            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to 
            the Holston View United Methodist Memorial Fund, Holston View United

            Mary King, 87, Jonesville, Va.

            JONESVILLE, Va. - Mary King, 87, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) 
            at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. 
            A lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., she was a member of Fleenors 
            Chapel Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Dossie Pearson; 
            and six sisters, Ocie Graham, Bonnie Stanifer, Laura Kate Cope, 
            Lillie Mae Gibson, Eleanor Pearson and Ethel Sexton. 
            Surviving are her husband, Rufus King, Jonesville, Va.; two sisters, 
            Loretta Crider, Jonesville, Va., and Opalee Tomlinson, Pennington 
            Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Arney-Mullins Funeral 
            Home in Jonesville, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Aaron Stapleton and the Rev. J.D. Owens 
            officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the Evarts 
            Memorial Gardens, Evarts, Ky. 

            Elizabeth Livesay, 78, Richmond, Va.

            RICHMOND, Va. - Elizabeth M. Livesay, 78, formerly of Big Stone Gap, 
            Va., died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001). 
            She was retired from CVS Pharmacy after over 30 years of service. 
            Surviving are two sons, Carl L. Livesay and William R. Livesay; one 
            daughter, Donna Lindblad and her husband, John; a grandson, 
            Christopher Livesay; two stepgrandchildren, John and Lesley 
            Lindblad; and her brother, Harry G. Livesay and wife, Jean. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holding Funeral Home, 
            Big Stone Gap, Va. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Glencoe 
            Cemetery with the Rev. Alan Collier officiating. 

            Margaret Massey, 77, Blountville.

            BLOUNTVILLE - Margaret Johnson Massey, 77, went to be with the Lord 
            Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) after a period of declining health. 
            Margaret was born May 9, 1924 in Tazewell County, Va., a daughter of 
            the late James Willie and Gracie Mae Ashford Johnson. She was the 
            widow of Carl Massey who passed away in 1990. 
            Margaret retired from the Bristol Regional Medical Center where she 
            was a cook for many years. She also worked at the Olde West Dinner 
            Theater. 
            She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. 
            Survivors include a special friend and caregiver, Teresa Flemming 
            Sherfey of Blountville; two cousins, Hazel Brown of Bristol, and 
            Mildred Fair of New Jersey. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the East Lawn 
            Funeral Home. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of the 
            funeral home with Alan L. Gorrell officiating. 
            Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tri-Cities 
            Memory Gardens.

            passed away on Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001).

            Lee Moore, 81, Indianapolis, Ind.

            INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Services for Everett Lee Moore, 81, who died 
            Saturday (Nov. 3, 2001), will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the 
            chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, with the 
            Rev. Arthur Franklin and Evangelist Gerald Bishop officiating. 
            Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral

            Patricia Ann Morris, 69, Big Stone Gap, Va.

            BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Patricia Ann Morris, 69, died Monday (Nov. 4, 
            2001) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital. 
            She was a native of Parkersburg, W.Va., attended Parkersburg High 
            School, and was a graduate of Marshall University. 
            She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her brother, Earle Douglas. 
            Surviving are her husband, James B. "Dutchy'' Morris; her sister, 
            Mary Joan Gregory, Staunton, Va.; sons, James Morris and wife Patti 
            of Austin, Texas, and Allan "Doug'' Morris and wife Melissa of 
            Kingsport; and grandchildren, Stefanie and Ashley Anders, Kingsport, 
            and Christopher, William, Averi and Haley Morris, Austin, Texas. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United 
            Methodist Church, Big Stone Gap, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with the 
            Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating.

            Douglas Osborne, 79, Union, S.C.

            UNION, S.C. - Douglas Lee Osborne, 79, died Friday (Nov. 2, 2001) at 
            Caldwell Memorial Hospital. 
            He was born June 12, 1922 in Blackwater, Va., to the late Hammie 
            Burdine Osborne and Maggie Wallen Osborne. 
            He retired from Cone Mills and was a member of Blackwater Lick 
            Primitive Baptist Church. 
            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, 
            Violet Rubena Osborne, of Blackwater, Va.; a brother, Guy Osborne, 
            of Pacolet, S.C.; and a sister, Belva Wilson, of South Carolina. 
            Surviving are one son, Sonny Osborne, Rock Hill, S.C.; four 
            grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Vesta Miller, 
            Las Vegas, Nev. 
            The funeral was conducted Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at North Side 
            Baptist Church, Granite Falls, N.C., with the Rev. Howard Michaels 
            and the Rev. Wiley Sanders officiating. 
            Burial was in the church cemetery. 
            Pallbearers were David Alvarado, Michael Wilcox, Gary Benfield, 
            Ronnie Waters, Richard Stout, and Steve Tolbert.

            Services for Minnie Easter Proffitt, 74, of Kingsport, who went to 
            be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001), will be conducted at 1 p.m. 
            today in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence 
            Wolfe and J.W. Depew officiating. Eulogy will be by Keith Manis. 
            Graveside service will follow in the Garden of the Apostles of the 
            East Lawn Memorial Park.

            Golden Sanders, 99, Jonesville, Va.

            JONESVILLE, Va. - Golden Katherine Sanders, 99, died Monday (Nov. 5, 
            2001) at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va. 
            She was born in Lee County, Va., where she resided until her 
            marriage and moved to Mitchell, Ind. She returned to Jonesville, 
            Va., after her husband's death. She was a school teacher, a merchant 
            and a homemaker. 
            She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesville, Va. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sanders; her 
            parents, William Mack and Sarah Munsey Burchett; four brothers, 
            Ellis Emmett, Otis and Mack Burchett; one sister, Bess M. Burchett; 
            two nephews; three nieces; one stepson; and three stepdaughters. 
            Surviving are seven nieces, Wandaleen B. McNiel and Kathleen B. 
            Burchett, both of Jonesville, Va., Virginia B. Ramsey, Ft. Wayne, 
            Ind., Mearl B. Ramsey, Heiskell, Tenn., Annette B. Webber, Sarasota, 
            Fla., Faye B. Maynard, Greensboro, N.C., and Phyllis B. Quigley, 
            Orlando, Fla.; two stepgrandsons, Charles Baker, Wilmington, N.C., 
            and Michael Sherwood, Indianapolis, Ind.; one stepgranddaughter, 
            RoseMary Peterson, Rigby, Idaho; several stepgrandchildren; a host 
            of cousins and friends.

            Everette E. Shelton, 75, Kingsport.
               
            Graveside services for Everette Eugene Shelton, 75, of Kingsport, 
            who went home to be with the Lord on Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001), will be 
            held at 11 a.m. today in the East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden 
            of David with the Rev. Orville Dolan officiating. 
            The family will meet at the graveside.

            Bruce Sloop, 58, Chuckey.

            CHUCKEY - Ernest Bruce Sloop Jr., 58, Jearoldstown community, died 
            early Tuesday morning (Nov. 6, 2001) at his home. 
            Born in Florence, Ala., he lived in the Kingsport area for several 
            years and had been a resident of Greene County for the past eight 
            years. Mr. Sloop was employed by the City of Kingsport as a 
            draftsman for over 25 years. 
            He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fall Branch where he 
            was a Sunday School teacher, leader of the Baptist men and a member 
            of the choir. 
            He was also a member of the New Life Quartet. 
            His father, Ernest Bruce Sloop Sr., preceded him in death. 
               
            Surviving are his wife, Judith "Sandy'' Harrell Sloop, of the home; 
            one son, Edward B. Sloop, of the home; mother, Louise Barnhardt 
            Sloop, Kingsport; and several cousins. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church 
            of Fall Branch. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the church with the 
            Rev. Carl Strickler officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in 
            Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

            Steve Duncan, Roland Davis and Phil Coffman.

            Jeffery Steffey, 48, Nickelsville, Va.

            NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Paul Jeffery Steffey, 48, of Route 2, passed 
            away Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at his residence. 
            Arrangements and survivors are incomplete and will be announced 
            later by Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va. 

            Kathleen Taylor, 68, Lebanon, Va.

            LEBANON, Va. - Kathleen Elizabeth Taylor, 68, of the Hansonville 
            community, went to be with the Lord Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) in 
            Johnston Memorial Hospital. 
            A lifelong resident of Russell County, she was a daughter of the 
            late John Henry and Winnie E. Lyons Taylor. 
            She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Lebanon where she 
            played the piano for many years. She was a former member of the 
            Lebanon Lifesaving Crew Crewettes. 
            She was the widow of William Harold Taylor. 
            A devoted mother and grandmother, she loved her family and friends. 
            She will be reunited with her loved ones in heaven. 
            In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 
            one sister, Mary Alice Stump. 
            Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah A. and Bill E. 
            Alexander, Lebanon; one son, John Harold Taylor, Abingdon, Va.; two 
            grandchildren, Kevin Anthony Alexander and Karen Lynette Alexander, 
            both of Lebanon; a special friend, Mervin B. Casey, Lebanon; also 
            one niece and two nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Combs Funeral Service in 
            Lebanon. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Carl Robinson and the Rev. Austin Fields 
            officiating. 
            Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Russell Memorial Cemetery.

            Wilma Walker, 77, Gray.

            GRAY - Wilma Hazel Walker, 77, died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at Asbury 
            Health Care Center, Johnson City. 
            A native of Washington County, she was a member of Bethany Baptist 
            Church and regularly attended Jonesborough Senior Citizens. 
            She was the daughter of the late Frazier and Pearl Ford Baines. 
            She was preceded in death by two brothers. 
            Surviving are a daughter, Patsy Combs of Gray; two brothers, Joe 
            Baines and Niles Baines, both of Gray; two grandchildren, Christine 
            Poore and Jeff Combs; and three great-grandchildren. 
            Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in 
            the Gray Cemetery. 
            Music will be by Dot Canady. 
            Pallbearers will be Mike Ford, Dale Ford, Larry Ford, Randall 
            Walker, Eric Barnes, Josh Robertson and Jerry Graybeal.

            Road, Rogersville, who passed away Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001), will be

            Grace Waller, 86, Blountville.

            BLOUNTVILLE - Grace Waller, 86, died Monday (Nov. 5, 2001) in 
            Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness. 
            She was a member of Caney Creek Baptist Church in Greene County. 
            Mrs. Waller was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Waller; son, 
            Johnny Waller; parents, Milburn and Viola Adams; sisters, Flossie 
            Roberts, Edith Beck, Victory Hughes; brothers, Rome Adams, Rico 
            Adams, and Worley Adams. 
               
            Surviving are her daughter, Janice Mellons, Blountville; sons, Dean 
            Waller, Kingsport, Dale Waller, Blountville, Earl Waller, 
            Elizabethton; sister, Clara Barton, Baileyton; brothers, Clarence 
            Adams, Jonesborough, Bob Adams, Greeneville; 20 grandchildren, 11 
            great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

            Johnnie H. Wray, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Johnnie H. Wray died Monday morning (Nov. 5, 2001) at 
            her home after a long, rich and productive life. 
            Born in Jefferson County, she had resided in Kingsport most of her 
            life. Mrs. Wray attended Carson-Newman College and graduated from 
            East Tennessee State Teachers College. She retired in 1976 from the 
            Kingsport City School System where she taught social studies at John 
            Sevier and Ross N. Robinson Junior High Schools. 
            She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and 
            had been actively involved in Presbyterian Women, Clothes Closet, 
            and Meals on Wheels. 
            Her parents, John T. and Opha Hardy; a sister, Edna Winstead; and a 
            brother, Jake Hardy, preceded her in death. 
            Surviving are her husband, William T. "Tommy" Wray Sr., Kingsport; 
            one daughter, Susan D. Wray, Seattle, Wash.; one son and 
            daughter-in-law, William T. Wray Jr. and Gwen Wray, Kingsport; two 
            grandchildren, Katye Wray and Will Wray; two sisters, Blanche 
            Hamilton, Hamblen County, Lula Belle "Girlie" Hale, Whitesburg; one 
            brother, James Brown Hardy, White Pine; and several nieces and 
            nephews. 
            The graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Oak Hill 
            Cemetery. 
            Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson 
            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Gary L.R. Bullard officiating.

            COEBURN, Va. - Nell Slemp Yates, 77, died Sunday (Nov. 4, 2001) at 
            Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Va. 
            She was a lifelong resident of the Coeburn area and a member of the 
            Crab Orchard Freewill Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Leafie Ann 
            Adkins Slemp. 
            Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Donnie Funk, 
            Coeburn, Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Linda Yates and 
            Danny and Debbie Yates, all of Coeburn, Va.; sister, Mrs. Nova 
            Lawson, Wise, Va.; five brothers, C.B. Slemp, Chattanooga, Tenn., 
            Morrell Slemp, Ray Slemp and Jimmy Ray Slemp, all of Coeburn, Va., 
            Joseph Slemp, St. Paul, Va.; grandchildren, Melissa Yates, Alicia 
            Yates, Wesley and wife, Andrese Funk, Matthew Yates, Martin Funk; 
            and great-grandson, Cody Funk; and several special nieces and 
            nephews. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today in the Estes Funeral Home 
            Chapel, Coeburn, Va., with the Rev. Terry Davis and the Rev. Leonard 
            Ferguson officiating. 
            Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn, Va. 

            Pallbearers will be Jeff Slemp, Jimmy Ray Slemp, Matthew Yates, 
            Scott Stanley, Joel Funk and Willie Stout Jr. 
            Honorary pallbearers will be James Slemp, Jerry Slemp, Joey Slemp, 
            Douglas Slemp, Gary Mitchell, Dale Brooks, Joe Foster, Jeff Dotson 
            and Jimmy Large.
