            KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Ethel Mae Burleson, 91, of 
            Alabaster, Ala., who passed away Friday (Nov. 9, 2001), will be at 2 
            p.m. today at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be her

            ATLANTA, Ga. - Services for Ralph W. Dillow, 80, who departed to be 
            with the Lord on Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001), will be conducted at 8 
            p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown. 

            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

            KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Margaret Clayman Fink, 88, who 
            went to be with the Lord Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001), will be conducted 
            at 11 a.m. today at the Gunnings Cemetery, Blountville. 
            Family and friends attending the graveside service will meet at the 
            cemetery at 10:55 a.m. 
            Pallbearers will be Paul Jennings, Jerry Jennings, Darrell

            Dee Elswick, 89, Wise, Va.

            WISE, Va. - Dee Elswick, 89, passed away Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001) at 
            the Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va. 
            He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. 
            Surviving are one daughter, Linda Bartley of Elkhorn City, Ky.; four 
            sons, Sammy Elswick of Jenkins, Ky., Tommy Elswick, Danny Elswick 
            and Eddie Elswick, all of Kona, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; six 
            great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Sturgill Funeral 
            Home, Wise. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Bill Craft officiating. 
            Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va., with 
            military graveside rites being conducted by the VFW Post No. 4301 of 
            Norton and the DAV Chapter No. 56 of Wise. 

            Lillie Hammonds, 88, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Lillie Ramey Hammonds, 88, passed away Sunday (Nov. 
            11, 2001) in Kingsport. 
            She was born in Scott County, Va., on Nov. 27, 1912, to the late 
            Alex and Callie Lane Ramey. She was a homemaker and former co-owner 
            of Hammonds Service Station and Grocery. 
            Mrs. Hammonds was of the Methodist faith. 
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
            husband, Albert H. Hammonds; three brothers, Willie, Hugh and Albert 
            Ramey; two sisters, Maggie Ramey and Ethel Peters; two sons-in-law, 
            Ed Barger and Bill Johnson. 
               
            Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Eula Barger, Kingsport, Mrs. James 
            Troy (Daisy) Glenn, Nickelsville, Va., Mrs. Mary Johnson, Gray, and 
            Mrs. Ned (June) Sutherland, Kingsport; sons, Albert J. (Jack) and 
            Sandra Gilliam Hammonds, and Roy L. and Deborah Grizzle Hammonds, 
            both of Gate City; sisters, Mrs. Ryland (Charlsie) Roller, Duffield, 
            Va., and Mrs. Pauline Williams, Florida; brother, Elbert C. (Oakie) 
            Ramey, Gate City; grandchildren, Danny and Cathy Glenn, Mrs. Richard 
            (Jane) Glenn Hankins, Kathy Glenn Edens, John Talmadge Glenn, Mrs.

            chapel with the Rev. Claude Lane and the Rev. Daryl Kay Williams 
            officiating. A Remembrance will be provided by Rebecca Barger 
            Banton. 
            Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holston View 
            Cemetery. 
            The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go in 
            procession to the cemetery. 
            Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

            Roger H. Ireson, 60, Lebanon, Va.

            LEBANON, Va. - Roger H. Ireson, 60, of the Green Valley section, 
            died Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001) after a lengthy illness. 
            Born in Dickensonville in Russell County, Va., he had lived the past 
            28 years in Lebanon, after serving a tour in the army and living in 
            Detroit, Mich., and Bradenton, Fla. 
            He was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, and was a member 
            of the William Birchfield Masonic Lodge No. 294 A.F.&A.M. He had 
            also served several years as a volunteer in the Lebanon Lifesaving 
            Crew. 
            Mr. Ireson was a retired chief of security for Jewell Smokeless Coal 
            Company. He had also served as a Russell County deputy sheriff, 
            where he was honored as the Outstanding Young Law Enforcer of 
            1974-1975. 
            He was preceded in death by his father, G. H. (Hick) Ireson; his 
            mother, Rosa Nell Adams Bare; and a brother, William (Bill) Ireson; 
            and his beloved cat, Snowball. 
            Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jean Garrett Ireson; a 
            daughter, Sandi and her husband Charles (Bobby) Fogleman; a son, 
            Jerry Ireson and his wife Angie; one granddaughter, Caroline 
            Elizabeth Rose (George) Fogleman, all of Lebanon; one sister and 
            brother-in-law, Shirley and Wayne Goodman, Las Vegas, Nev.; two 
            brothers, Robert (Bob) Ireson, and Rex Ireson and wife Cindy, all of 
            Castlewood, Va.; his stepmother, Nora Ireson, of South Carolina; his 
            stepfather, L.H. (Herb) Bare, Lebanon; stepsister and 
            brother-in-law, Linda and Don Couch, of South Carolina; stepbrother, 
            Lawrence Bare, of Florida; an uncle, Elbert Ireson, Kingsport; also 
            several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be after 6 p.m. today at the Green Valley Baptist 
            Church where Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. today by the 
            William Birchfield Masonic Lodge No. 294 A.F.&A.M. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church with the 
            Rev. Darrell Fletcher and the Rev. Austin Fields officiating. 
            Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. 
            Leonard Fletcher, George Tetter, Don Mosier, Curtis Adams, James 
            Keene, Jeff Sutton, Robert Odham and Fred Moore will serve as 
            pallbearers. 
            Thomas (Red) Simmons, Sam Glovier, Bob Phillips, Steve Wallace, Fred 
            Wallace, Harold Puckett, Otis Ray, Andy Walls, J.U. Brown and the 
            members of the Green Valley Baptist Church Mens Sunday School class 
            will serve as honorary pallbearers.

            Baptist Church Children's Fund, Route 2, Lebanon, Va. 24266.

            Eugene R. Marshall, 70, Gray.

            GRAY - Eugene R. Marshall, 70, of 1237 Olde Oaks Drive, died 
            suddenly at the Fayette Community Hospital, Fayetteville, Ga., on 
            Thursday (Nov. 8, 2001). 
            A native of Stamford, Conn., he was the son of the late Raymond and 
            Emma Gillen Marshall. He had been a resident of the Gray area for 
            the last 11 years. 
            Mr. Marshall was a retired engineer, former professor and a 20-year 
            retiree of the U.S. Air Force. 
            He was a member of the Our Saviour Lutheran Church, the Primetimers 
            Club, the Lutheran Brotherhood of the Mt. Empire No. 2, and the 
            TROIA of the Mt. Empire. 
            He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia R. Marshall; and a 
            grandson, Donald Marshall. 
            Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth S. Marshall; three sons, the 
            Rev. Stewart A. Marshall, Union City, Maj. Thomas R. Marshall, 
            Stockbridge, Ga., and Jeffrey R. Marshall, Franklin, Tenn.; a 
            daughter, Susan M. Marshall, Gray; and a sister, Kathi Kazanjian, 
            Mobile, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Morris - Baker 
            Funeral Home, Johnson City. 
            A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Our 
            Saviour Lutheran Church. The service will be under the direction of 
            the Rev. Jim Nipper, the Rev. Stewart Marshall, the Rev. Karnig 
            Kazanjian and the Rev. David Mielke. 
            Mr. Marshall will be cremated.

            James McGee, 76, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - James Toliver McGee, 76, departed this life on 
            Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

            Virginia K. Minton, 85, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Services for Virginia K. Minton, 85, who died Saturday 
            (Nov. 10, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of 
            Oak Hill Funeral Homewith the Rev. Mike Stout officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The 
            family will also receive friends at the residence of a sister, 
            Sophia Souder, 812 W. Carters Valley Road.

            Cemetery.

            Julian Moore, 77, Erwin.

            ERWIN - Julian George "Bud" Moore, 77, died Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001) 
            at his residence. 
            He was a native of Louisville, Ky., but had lived in Erwin his 
            entire life. He was a son of the late Rufus Slaughter and Julia 
            Horne Moore. 
            He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater in World War II 
            from 1943 to 1945. 
            He received his B.S. degree from ETSU in 1954 and was a graduate of 
            the UT of Memphis where he received his DDS. He was a member of the 
            American Dental Society and the Tenn. State Dental Society. 
            He was also a member of Erwin Civitan, longtime member of Johnson 
            City Country Club, Elks Lodge of Erwin No. 1985, Tenn. Golf 
            Association and U.S. Golf Association. 
            He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Erwin. 
            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older 
            brother, Rufus Moore Jr. 
            Survivors include his daughter, Melynda (Bob) Whetsel of Knoxville; 
            two sons, Tad (Earlene) Moore of Greeneville, and Robert Martin 
            (Paige) Moore of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters, Martha Baughn, Doris 
            McKernon, Mary Sowers and Peggy McCartey, all of California; 
            brothers, Louis Moore of Kingsport, Bill Moore of Bristol, Bob Moore 
            of California, Don "Red" Moore of Erwin, and Gene Moore of Hickory, 
            N.C.; grandchildren, Jackson Whetsel and Joshua Misener; companion, 
            Nadine Brennan Messerschmidt; former wife, Jane Boyd Lovelace of 
            Erwin; several nieces and nephews. 
            Arrangements are incomplete.

            James Kyle Rogers, 44, Church Hill.

            CHURCH HILL - James Kyle Rogers, 44, of Lloyds Chapel Road, died 
            Friday (Nov. 9, 2001) in Church Hill. 
            He was born in Sullivan County and lived most of his life in Church 
            Hill. He was Scout Master and troop leader for Troop No. 149, Church 
            Hill, for several years. He worked in the construction trade. 
            He was preceded in death by a son, James Kyle Rogers Jr.; his 
            father, Bert Kyle Rogers; and brother, Carson Rogers. 
               
            Surviving are his mother, Mary Ann Gibson Rogers, Church Hill; his 
            sons, Daniel Will Rogers, Kingsport, Christopher "Bo" Rogers, Church 
            Hill, and Jeremy Shane Rogers, Kingsport; one sister, Pauletta 
            Rogers Christian, Church Hill; three brothers, Larry Wayne Rogers, 
            Kingsport, Mike Rogers and Roy Rogers, both of Church Hill; several 
            nieces and nephews. 
            Services were conducted Sunday at 5 p.m. in the chapel of 
            Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill, with the Rev. Gary Gerhardt 
            officiating. 
            A private burial was held at the Rogers' Family Cemetery. 
            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop No. 
            149, P.O. Box 146, Church Hill, Tenn. 37642. 

            Bobby Gene Seal, 67, Cincinnati, Ohio.

            CINCINNATI, Ohio - Bobby Gene Seal, 67, passed away Friday (Nov. 9, 
            2001) following a two-month battle with bone and lung cancer. 
            Mr. Seal was born in Morristown, the son of the late Guy and Virgie 
            Seal. His mother, a school teacher, encouraged him and his siblings 
            to place education as the highest priority, and he graduated from 
            Church Hill High School in 1950 at age 16. He received a bachelor's 
            degree from ETSU in 1954, and a master's of business administration 
            from the University of Michigan in 1958. 
            He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. At age 20, he attended the naval 
            Officer Candidate School in Newport, R.I., and became one of the 
            youngest graduates in the history of the naval OCS. During the end 
            of the Korean conflict, Mr. Seal was the quartermaster of a diesel 
            repair ship in Sasebo, Japan. The Navy promoted him to the rank of 
            lieutenant junior grade, and after the conflict ended, he was 
            stationed in Long Beach, Calif. 
            Mr. Seal worked for Procter & Gamble for 16 years. He began his 
            career in finance and eventually switched to marketing. Before age 
            40 he had become general manager of Folgers Coffee, and spent 18 
            months overseeing Folgers' operations in Milan, Italy. 
            After leaving P&G, Mr. Seal went into business for himself as a 
            management consultant, and in 1983, founded North American Software, 
            Inc., a software company that continues to operate in Cincinnati. As 
            president of the company, he conceived and built Broker's Helper, a 
            portfolio management and customer relationship management 
            application for stockbrokers. This product grew into a suite of 
            programs that now include Investment Advisor's Helper and Lawyer's 
            Helper. 
               
            Survivors include his wife, Katherine Mack Seal, Cincinnati; two 
            sons, Robert Seal and Kevin Seal, both of San Francisco, Calif.; one 
            brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Theresa Seal, Beaverton, 
            Oreg.; one sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Dr. Norman Davis, 
            Jonesborough; one niece, Dr. Becky Seal, San Francisco, Calif.; 
            three nephews, Scott Davis, Elizabethton, Jim Davis, Jonesborough, 
            and Chris Seal, Beaverton, Oreg.; one great-niece, Julie Davis, 
            Elizabethton; two great-nephews, Seth and Drew Davis, Elizabethton. 
            Calling hours are from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home, 
            Church Hill. 
            Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Mark Harrod officiating. 
            Burial will follow in Church Hill Memory Gardens.

            N.T. Simerly, 73, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - N.T. Simerly, 73, of Park Street, died at 8:15 p.m. 
            Saturday (Nov. 10, 2001). 
            Born in Carter County (Elizabethton), he served in the U.S. Army 
            from 1945 at the age of 15 until retirement on July 19, 1966, over 
            21 years of service. He received many honor medals, among them the 
            Asiatic/Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Army of 
            Occupation medal with Germany clasp, Vittles clasp and Japan clasp. 
            He was a member of the Hawkins County VFW Post No. 9754 of Church 
            Hill. 
            He was also a member of the Ross Camp Ground United Methodist 
            Church. 
            He was preceded in death by his parents, Nat Simerly and Dora 
            Hartley Simerly; seven sisters; and seven brothers. 
               
            Surviving are his wife, Ruby Davis Simerly, of the home; three 
            sisters, Sally Johnson, Warren, Ohio, Hildred Montgomery, 
            Elizabethton, and Lois Perry, Akron, Ohio; one brother, Mack 
            Simerly, Newport News, Va. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral 
            Home of downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating. 
            Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Hill 
            Cemetery in Mount Carmel with Fort Campbell. Ky., Honor Guard in 
            charge. 
            Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard of the U.S. Army from Fort 
            Campbell, Ky.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Bessie Juanita Smith, 77, entered into rest

            KINGSPORT - Dorothy JoAnn Watts, 58, 680 Bancroft Chapel Road, died 
            Sunday morning (Nov. 11, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical 
            Center after a brief illness. 
            She was born in Greene County and had resided most of her life in 
            Kingsport. 
            Mrs. Watts was of the Baptist faith. 
            She was an avid bird lover. 
            She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Watts; parents, 
            Rome Adams and Iva Bowlin; one brother, Hartzell Zee Adams. 
               
            Survivors include her loving companion and husband of 25 years, Bud 
            Sisk; two sons, Lucky Watts and wife Rita, Roan Mountain, Troy Watts 
            and wife Barbara, Piney Flats; two grandchildren, Tiffany Watts and
