            BLUFF CITY - Robbie Thomas Arrants died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) in 
            Montgomery County Nursing Home in Clarksville, Tenn. 
            A lifelong resident of Bluff City, she was the daughter of the late 
            Reed H. Thomas Sr. and Ressie Darr Bryan Thomas. She was a retired 
            employee of Holston Ordinance in Kingsport. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Henderson B. Arrants. 
            Surviving are her daughter, Toni Spears Bryan and her husband, Dr. 
            Eugene Bryan, of Clarksville; two granddaughters, Tracy Bryan White 
            and her husband, Dr. Steve White, of Clarksville, and Stephanie 
            Bryan Huber and her husband, Craig Huber, of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; 
            two great-grandsons, Bryson and Brady White, both of Clarksville; 
            two nieces, Candy Phelps, of Bluff City, and Mona Beverly, of 
            Knoxville; one nephew, Reed Walter Rutherford, Bluff City; two 
            sisters-in-law, Laura J. Thomas and Helen W. Thomas, both of Bluff 
            City. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Oakley-Cook Funeral 
            Home, Bristol, Tenn. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery 
            with Dr. Charles A. Burdeshaw officiating. 
            The family requests that expressions of sympathy may be made in the 
            form of contributions to their favorite charity.

            CHURCH HILL - Services for Selman L. Bowen, 80, who entered into 
            rest Monday (Nov. 12, 2001), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in 
            the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home with 
            the Rev. J.W. Depew officiating. 
            Music will be provided by Junior Smith and the Family Tradition. 
            Burial will the follow the service at Holston View Cemetery, Weber 
            City, Va. 
            Pallbearers will be Wesley Dunn, Bobby Dunn, Carl Culbertson, 
            Kenneth Sutherland, Bill Williams and Chris Reed. 

            Jim Busick, 72, Blountville.

            BLOUNTVILLE - Services for Jim Busick, 72, 952 Hamilton Road, who 
            went to be with the Lord unexpectedly Monday (Nov. 12, 2001), will 
            be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral 
            Home, Kingsport, with the Rev. Wayne McCracken officiating. 
            Burial will be in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville. 
            Pallbearers will be family and friends. 

            George Carico, 78, Coeburn, Va.

            COEBURN, Va. - George Monroe Carico, 78, died Tuesday (Nov. 13, 
            2001) at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Va. 
            He was a retired employee of the Westmoreland Coal Company, a member 
            of the UMWA District 28, and a member of the Banner Assembly of God 
            Church for 52 years. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Hugh 
            Latham Lodge #107 and the Banno Knockus Club. 
            He was the son of the late John Nathan and Melvina Kilgore Carico. 
            He was preceded in death by an infant son, George Michael Carico; 
            six brothers and three sisters. 
            Surviving are his wife for 54 years, Violet Robinette; two sons and 
            a daughter-in-law, John Carico of Coeburn, Va., and the Rev. Jeff 
            Carico and daughter-in-law, Donna Carico, of Bristol, Va.; a 
            daughter, Jennifer Carico Williams of Coeburn, Va.; four 
            grandchildren, Rachel Williams, Andrew Carico, Kristin Carico and 
            Katie Carico; two brothers, Charlie Carico of Coeburn, Va., and 
            Kenneth Carico of Marblehead, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are after 6 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, 
            Coeburn, Va. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Jeff Carico and the Rev. Glen Hammacker 
            officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Temple 
            Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va. 

            Martha Case, 86, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Martha Caroline Case, 86, passed away Tuesday morning 
            (Nov. 13, 2001) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home following an extended 
            illness. 
            She was a member of Bass Chapel Baptist Church, and was a graduate 
            of Surgoinsville High School. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Pearly Case; 
            brothers, Claude, Charlie and James Case; and sister, Beulah 
            Robinson. 
            Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Edith Case of 
            Rogersville; sister and brother-in-law, Myrtle and Paul Knepper of 
            Ft. Wayne, Ind.; sister-in-law, Dana Case of Surgoinsville; 
            guardian, Bonnie Case Fowler of Rogersville; several nieces and 
            nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Colboch-Price 
            Funeral Home, Rogersville. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Dee Hicks officiating. 
            Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hawkins County 
            Memorial Gardens. 

            William (Larry) Cox, 79, Johnson City.
               
            JOHNSON CITY - Interment for William Lawrence (Larry) Cox, 79, of 
            the Harmony community, who entered into heavenly rest Sunday (Nov. 
            11, 2001), will be at 1 p.m. today in the Veterans Affairs National 
            Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn. 
            There will be military rites by the VFW Color Guard of Post No. 
            3382. 
            Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be nephews and close family members. 
            The family has requested contributions for Harmony Baptist Church. 
            Gray Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 

            Georgia M. Fleenor, 87, Fort Myers, Fla.

            FORT MYERS, Fla. - Georgia Marie Fleenor, 87, 3674 Winkler Ave. at 
            the Palms in Fort Myers, Fla., died Monday (Nov. 12, 2001) at her 
            residence. 
            Mrs. Fleenor was born Jan. 5, 1914 in Rogersville. She was married 
            Sept. 17, 1932 to Samuel Brown Fleenor and operated Fleenor's Market 
            and Motel, also the Townhouse Motel in Kingsport for many years. 
            They lived in Florida for over 40 years, with their residence in 
            Daytona Beach, Fla., where they owned and operated the Sea Tona 
            Motel on South Atlantic Avenue. For the last four years Georgia had 
            been a resident of the Palms in Fort Myers. 
            Georgia and Brown had three children. Betty Jean Fleenor preceded 
            her in death in 1936. 
            Georgia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Delores and 
            Charles Miller, Fort Myers, Fla.; her son and daughter-in-law, Bill 
            and Eleanor Fleenor, Brentwood, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Charles 
            Kenneth Miller III, T. Todd Fleenor, Alisa F. Campbell, William 
            Samuel Miller; and 10 great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at East Lawn Funeral Home. 

            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Mark Fleenor, the Rev. Mike Fleenor and the 
            Rev. Rye Fleenor officiating. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gunnings 
            Cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be Charles Kenneth Miller III, Timothy Todd 
            Fleenor, Alisa F. Campbell, Steve Campbell, William Samuel Miller, 
            Timothy Todd Fleenor Jr. 
            A memorial service was held on Monday at the Palms in Fort Myers, 
            Fla. 

            Mark Harkleroad, 32, Memphis, Tenn.

            MEMPHIS - Mark Harkleroad, 32, died Wednesday morning (Nov. 14, 
            2001) at Memphis Regional Medical Center of injuries sustained in an 
            automobile accident. 
            Surviving are his wife, Kitty Harkleroad; stepdaughter, Sandi 
            Russom; stepson, Jonathan Russom, all of Memphis; his parents, Oscar 
            and Martha Harkleroad, Kingsport. 
            Arrangements are incomplete. 
            Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Harkleroad 
            family. 

            William Ledbetter, Rogersville.
               
            Military graveside services for William Gassway "Bill'' Ledbetter, 
            of Rogersville, who died Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001), will be conducted 
            by Hawkins County Color Guard at 11 a.m. today at the VA National 
            Cemetery in Johnson City. Family and friends will be meeting at the 
            cemetery. 
            Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

            C. Robert McAmis, 71, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Charles Robert McAmis, 71, 406 Castle Oaks Drive, died 
            at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical 
            Center after a brief illness. 
            A lifelong resident of Kingsport, he attended Davidson College and 
            was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law. 
            Following service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he practiced 
            law for a number of years in Kingsport and retired due to poor 
            health. 
            Mr. McAmis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. 
            His mother, Vara McAmis, preceded him in death. 
            Surviving are his father, Luke M. McAmis Sr., Kingsport; a brother, 
            Luke M. McAmis Jr. and wife, Frances, Kingsport; a niece, Judith M. 
            McAmis, Kingsport; and several cousins living in Kingsport and 
            Greeneville. 
            Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the McAmis family.

            PINEY FLATS - Vivian "Polly" McKamey went to be with her Lord 
            Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Johnson City Medical Center.

            James W. Moody Sr., 82, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - James W. Moody Sr., 82, went to be with the Lord on 
            Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) after an automobile accident. 
            He was born in Kingsport and lived most of his life in Cooks Valley. 
            He was a member of Kingsport Methodist Church, and was a retired 
            carpenter by trade. 
            James was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Opal Lewis 
            Moody; brothers, Clifton, Clay and Farris Moody; sister, Hazel 
            Moody; parents, Ed and Ollie Dillow Moody; and a 
            great-granddaughter, Summer Quillen. 
               
            Surviving are his brothers, Ray Moody Sr., Bill Moody and J.B. 
            Moody; and by sisters, Louise Williams and Margie Jennings. Mr. 
            Moody is also survived by his six children, James W. Moody Jr., 
            Shirley Krell, E.G. Moody and wife Mary Frances, Linda Christian and 
            husband Phillip, Lewis Moody and wife Nancy, and T. Glen Moody and 
            wife Deb, all of the Kingsport and Bristol areas. He is also 
            survived by 10 grandchildren, T. Suzy Ray, Toni Phelps, Tiffany 
            Hickman, Sara Christian, Kelly Quillen, Leah Burnette, Amy Cornett, 
            Jason Moody, Joshua Moody and Melody Moody; and 10 
            great-grandchildren. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral 
            Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the 
            funeral home with the Rev. A. Richard Ratliff and the Rev. Paul

            Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gunnings 
            Cemetery with Pastor Tim Adkins officiating.

            Services for Billy H. Orender, 66, 1325 Bridwell St., Kingsport, who 
            went to be with the Lord Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001), will be conducted 
            at 11 a.m. today at Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. 
            Orville Rogers and the Rev. Robert L. (Junior) Parker officiating. 
            Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va.

            Charles Pauley, 57, Rose Hill, Va.

            ROSE HILL, Va. - Charles "Bussie'' Pauley Jr., 57, died Wednesday 
            (Nov. 14, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center. 
            A lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., he was a carpenter by trade, 
            and was of the Baptist faith. 
            He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Pearl Pauley; 
            three sisters, Inez Davis, Martha Parker and Barbara Pauley; four 
            brothers, Bud, Bean, Bib and Bab Pauley. 
            Surviving are his wife, Ruby Pauley of Rose Hill; two sons, Donnie 
            "Pooch'' Pauley of Rose Hill, and Tom Pauley of Elydale, Va.; nine 
            grandchildren; two brothers, Sis Pauley of St. Charles, Va., and 
            Paul Pauley of Longsport, Ind.; two sisters, Maude Brock of Rose 
            Hill, and Kat Spurlock of Rocksport, Ky. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Arney-Mullins Funeral 
            Home of Rose Hill. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Robert Charles Long officiating.

            Services for Marie Jo Smith, 66, of Kingsport, who died at 9:30 a.m.

            Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes with Pastor 
            Lester Morelock officiating.

            Cemetery.

            Alice M. Swann, 86, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Alice McNeer Swann, 1334 Belmeade Drive, died at home 
            Tuesday morning (Nov. 13, 2001). She was 86 years old. 
            A lifelong Episcopalian, Alice was born on June 10, 1915 in Dante, 
            Va. Her family moved to Kingsport in 1928. She graduated from 
            Dobyns-Bennett High School and soon married her school sweetheart, 
            Carl Swann. They were partners in married life for 52 years, and she 
            was his business partner in Carl Swann Photography. 
            Carl and Alice won many regional and national awards for photography 
            and her specialty, photo painting. Her expertise was recognized and 
            appreciated through the many seminars she was asked to give to 
            professional groups. Thousands of brides, parents and families 
            across the southeast considered Carl and Alice to be "their" 
            photographers during the course of their 40-year career. Through her 
            foresight as business manager, she preserved the negatives of over 
            11,000 photographic sittings spanning 40 years; this archive still 
            exists and is maintained by the family. 
            Alice was an active octogenarian and a faithful communicant at St. 
            Paul's Episcopal Church in Kingsport, as well as a "regular" at the 
            Kingsport "Survivors Club" until shortly before her death. Her final 
            enjoyment came from the October, 2001 publishing of "Memories from 
            Dante: The Life of a Coal Town," a 525-page oral history of her 
            hometown to which she made substantial narrative contributions. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Thomas T. and Delta 
            (Crouch) McNeer; a brother, Thomas T. McNeer Jr.; and her husband, 
            Carl C. Swann. 
               
            Survivors include a son, Carl C. Swann Jr., daughter-in-law, Peggy 
            (Shelor) Swann, and grandson, Eric Swann, all of Kingsport; and a 
            daughter, Mary (Swann) Bebout and son-in-law, Steve Bebout, of 
            Ferrum, Va. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marian Jones, 
            of Kingsport; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Kent 
            Room at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. 
            A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the 
            church followed by family graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery. 
            The Rev. Jay Mills and the Rev. Suzanne Smitherman will be 
            officiants. 
            In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to 
            St. Paul's Episcopal Church Food Pantry, 161 East Ravine Road, 
            Kingsport, Tenn. 37660, or to the Humane Society of Greater

            Jerry M. Vaughn, 46, Duffield, Va.

            DUFFIELD, Va. - Services for Jerry M. Vaughn, 46, of the Mabe 
            community, who died Sunday (Nov. 11, 2001), will be conducted at 1 
            p.m. today at Durham's Chapel Church with Terry Rhoton and Rick 
            Kincer officiating. 
            Music will be provided by The Durham's Chapel Quartet and Cleda 
            Sampson. 
            Burial will be in the McNew Cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be friends and family. 
            The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village is in charge of the

            Marion Watterson, 42, Johnson City.

            JOHNSON CITY - Marian Elaine Watterson, 42, formerly of Kingsport, 
            departed this life Monday (Nov. 12, 2001) at her residence. 
            She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church and a graduate of 
            Dobyns-Bennett High School. Ms. Watterson was a veteran of the U.S. 
            Army and was a former employee at Ashley Academy, Fingerhut and was 
            employed by Johnson City Medical Center. 
            Ms. Watterson was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hugh and 
            Maggie Armstrong and Josiah and Carrie White Jr.; and aunts and 
            uncles. 
               
            Surviving are her parents, Richard and Barbara Watterson, Johnson 
            City, and Ray and Bernice Horton, Kingsport; two sisters, Gail 
            (Reggie) Peterson, Memphis, Tenn., Elizabeth Love Murphy, Johnson 
            City; nine brothers, Ricky Watterson, Kosovo, Yugoslavia, United 
            Nations, Gregory Richard (Regina) Watterson Jr., Kingsport, Ronald 
            (Anna) Watterson, Atlanta, Ga., Keith (Mary) Love, Columbus, Ohio, 
            Charles (Wilma) Love, Robert (Tonya) Love, Lynn (Phelima) Love, 
            Johnson City and Steven Love, Farmington, N.M.; four aunts, Mrs.

            Rev. Dr. Felix Ofosu officiating.

            KINGSPORT - Margaret Nelms Wimberly, 90, of Crescent Drive, died at 
            2 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Asbury Center at Baysmont. 
            The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at First 
            Broad Street United Methodist Church. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the 
            Rev. Jack Edwards officiating. 
            Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
