            KINGSPORT - Doris Jessee Baker, 65, passed away Thursday (Nov. 15, 
            2001) at her residence. 
            She was born in Wise County, Va., and moved to Kingsport in 1963. 
            She retired from Holston Valley Medical Center and J.P. Stevens. 
            She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Morrison City. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilmer Jessee and Frampton 
            Stanley Jessee; one son, Gilmer Michael Baker; and one sister, Joyce 
            Ann Jessee. 
            Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Keltie) Kerney, Weber City, 
            Va., and Mrs. Jeff (Michelle) Herron, Kingsport; two sons, Lloyd 
            "Bo" Baker, Kingsport, and Mark Anthony Baker, Denver, Colo.; two 
            sisters, Mary E. Collins and Miss Agnes Hunsaker, both of Wise, Va.; 
            five brothers, James Jessee, Bristol, Va., Wayland Jessee, Harrison 
            Jessee, both of Wise, Va., William "Billy" Jessee, Oklomoke City, 
            Okla., and Charles Vern "Dock" Jessee, Hillsville, Va.; eight 
            grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 
            Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent 
            Funeral Home, Kingsport. 

            Eunice B. Baker, 70, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Eunice B. Baker, 70, died Wednesday (November 14, 2001) 
            after suffering a heart attack. 
            She was born on February 27, 1931 in Sullivan Co. where she lived 
            her entire life. Ms. Baker devoted her time to care giving and 
            homemaking. 
            She was a member of Gardners Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and 
            attended Chestnut Flats Primitive Baptist Church. 
            Ms. Baker was the daughter of the late Jake K. Baker. 
            Surviving are her mother, Roena B. Baker; other survivors include, 
            Sylvia and Wayne Gibson, Blountville, Christopher Wayne Gibson, 
            Cookeville, Ada Lou Baker of the home, Virgie Ann and Dan Cross, 
            Rural Retreat, VA, Minola and Phillip Price, Kingsport, Ralph and 
            Kay Baker, Kingsport, Elder Lewis and Rosa Baker, Blountville; eight 
            nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson 
            Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chestnut Flats 
            Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Henry Sybert, Elder Greg 
            Hill, and Elder Lewis Baker officiating. 
            Burial will follow in Booher's Chapel Cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be Gary Price, Larry Price, Mitchum Price, Kenneth 
            Cross, Kevin Cross, Eric Kerney, and Jay Studebaker. 

            Ruth I. Blevins, 84, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Ruth I. Hagie Blevins, 84, formerly of Kingsport, went 
            to be with the Lord Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at the Greystone 
            Health Care after a period of declining health. 
            Ruth was born April 20, 1917 in Avery County, N.C., and was a 
            daughter of the late James Robert and Sarah I. Cannon Hagie. She was 
            the widow of James Blevins. Ruth was a member of the Macedonia 
            Freewill Baptist Church of Kingsport. 
            In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 
            two brothers and four sisters. 
               
            Surviving are her sister, Edith Cantrell, Gray; a brother and 
            sister-in-law, Robert and Pansy Hagie, Kingsport; a special niece, 
            Phyllis Dunn, Kingsport; several other nieces and nephews. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Orville Rogers and the Rev. Robert Parker Jr. 
            officiating. 
            Music will be under the direction of the Heavenly Way Trio and Todd 
            Jennings. 
            Interment will follow in the Garden of Everlasting Life III of the 
            East Lawn Memorial Park. 
            Pallbearers will be Lester Williams, Eugene Sparks, Jim Hagie, Bobby 
            Dunn, Bill Hagie and Shannon Dunn.

            Martha Case, 86, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Martha Caroline Case, 86, who 
            passed away Tuesday morning (Nov. 13, 2001), will be held at 10 a.m. 
            today at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

            Eloise Christian, Gate City, Va.

            GATE CITY, Va. - Zola Eloise Christian of the Manville community, 
            passed away Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001).

            Richard L. Church, Augusta, Ga.

            AUGUSTA, Ga. - Richard L. Church, Major U.S. Army Retired, entered 
            into rest on Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at the Medical College of 
            Georgia. 
            Mr. Church was born in Ft. Eustis, Va., attended Florida Christian 
            University and later graduated from Augusta College. Mr. Church 
            served our country in Korea and Vietnam with the U.S. Army and later 
            retired after 22 years of service as a Major. After his retirement 
            with the Army, Mr. Church went to work with the Red Cross and worked 
            20 years before his second retirement. 
            Surviving are his wife, Geraldine Church, Augusta, Ga.; his mother, 
            Dora Church, Boone, N.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanne 
            and Dr. William Bell, Kingsport, Lynn Church, Augusta, Ga., Dottie 
            and Mickey Smoot, Atlanta, Ga.; his two sons and daughters-in-law, 
            Doug and Roxann Church, Wichita, Kans., and Richard and Marianne 
            Church, Augusta, Ga.; his eight grandchildren, Andy Bell, James 
            Bell, Brian Church, Suzanne Church, Tyler Smoot, Bradley Smoot, 
            Richard Church and Michelle Church; his brother and sister-in-law, 
            Arnold and Mary Church, Alexandria, Va.; and his sister, Audrey 
            Hartley, Boone, N.C.

            Nora Davis, 97, Harlan, Ky.

            HARLAN, Ky. - Nora Champlin Davis, 97, recently of Harlan, Ky., died 
            Nov. 13, 2001 at Harlan Nursing Home after a long illness. She 
            previously had resided in Pennington Gap, Va. for over 50 years. 
            A native of Four Mile, Bell County, Ky., she attended Harlan City 
            Schools and resided in Loyall, Ky. She was married to Samuel J. 
            Davis Sr. of Claiborne County, Tenn. for 38 years before his death 
            in 1959. 
            She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pennington 
            Gap, Va., where she earlier served in the Women's Circle and taught 
            as a substitute teacher in the Ladies Sunday School Class. 
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Davis Sr.; 
            daughter, Lola D. Dugger and a son, Samuel J. Davis Jr., both of 
            Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Elsie Rowlett Spurlock, Georgia 
            Champlin Roberts and Mayme Broyles Bolser; and one brother, Ernest 
            E. Champlin. 
               
            Surviving are two daughters, Wilma D. Boggs of Loyall, Ky., and 
            Carol D. Bailey of Louisville, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; 20 
            great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. 
            Visitation will be at her church in Pennington Gap on Saturday, Nov. 
            17, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. after which the funeral will be 
            held. 
            Interment will follow at the Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va. 
            Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the service will be 
            officiated by Dr. Ken Sprinkle, Pennington Gap. Va. Province Funeral 
            Home of Pennington Gap, Va. is in charge of the arrangements. 
            The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be 
            made to the First United Methodist Church, 205 E. Morgan Ave., 
            Pennington Gap, Va. 24277.

            Church of Pennington Gap, Va. 

            Georgia M. Fleenor, 87, Fort Myers, Fla.

            FORT MYERS, Fla. - Services for Georgia Marie Fleenor, 87, 3674 
            Winkler Ave. at the Palms in Fort Myers, Fla., who died Monday (Nov. 
            12, 2001), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel of East 
            Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Fleenor, the Rev. Mike Fleenor 
            and the Rev. Rye Fleenor officiating. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gunnings 
            Cemetery. 
            Pallbearers will be Charles Kenneth Miller III, Timothy Todd

            Mark Harkleroad, 32, Memphis, Tenn.

            MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mark Harkleroad, 32, died Wednesday morning (Nov. 
            14, 2001) at Memphis Regional Medical Center of injuries sustained 
            in an automobile accident. 
            Surviving are his wife, Kitty Harkleroad; stepdaughter, Sandi 
            Russom; stepson, Jonathan Russom, all of Memphis, Tenn.; his 
            parents, Oscar and Martha Harkleroad, Kingsport. 
            Arrangements are incomplete. 
            Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Harkleroad 
            family. 

            Letcher A. Hill, Virginia Beach, Va.

            VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Letcher A. Hill of Atlantic Shores, died 
            Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001). 
            Mr. Hill was born in Big Stone Gap, Va. on June 15, 1922 and was the 
            son of the late Letcher A. Hill Sr. and Amanda Buchanan Hill. 
            Mr. Hill was a World War II veteran amd was a B-17 pilot with the 
            Army Air Corp. After serving his country, he completed his 
            undergraduate work at Milligan College and East Tennessee State. He 
            received his master's degree at George Peabody Teacher's College and 
            further studied at University of Virginia and Old Dominion 
            University. He retired in 1986 after 37 years in public education. 
            His career began as a teacher and coach at Kempsville High School in 
            the early 1950s. He served in the same capacity at Maury High School 
            before returning to the Virginia Beach School System in 
            administration. He served as principal at three high schools, 
            retiring at Kellam. 
            Mr. Hill was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the 
            Sons of Confederacy Veteran. He was also a member of the Cavalier 
            Golf and Yacht Club and was past member of the Kempsville Volunteer 
            Fire Department. 
            He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Edens and Maureen 
            Cradic; and his brothers, Howard Hill, Omer Hill and Charles Hill. 
            Surviving are his daughter Linda Noel Hill; his son, Steven Mark 
            Hill and his wife Marcia and their children: Amanda, Julia, Jonathan 
            and Martin; his son, James Maury Hill and his wife Francie and their 
            children, Matthew and C.J., all of Virginia Beach; his sisters, 
            Delores Atkins of Lombard, Ill., Reyln Henard of Kingsport, Muriel 
            Bailey of Sumter, S.C., and Alvonia Mumpower of Big Stone Gap, Va.; 
            his brother, Ronald Hill of Salem, Va. 
            Calling hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holding Funeral Home, 
            Big Stone Gap, Va. 
            Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the 
            Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va.

            Billie King, 69, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Billie Hagan King, 69, Thompson Street, passed away 
            Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center. 
            Born in Sullivan County, he attended Sullivan High School and 
            graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1958. He taught 
            school in Waycross, Ga., after which he was employed by Mason-Dixon 
            Truck Lines for a few years. He resumed his teaching at Sullivan 
            County schools until his retirement in 1995. He was a veteran of the 
            U.S. Marine Corps. 
            He was a member of Rock Spring United Methodist Church. 
            He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kenna Denise Horne 
            and his parents, John Knox King and Ruby Shipp King. 
            Surviving are his wife, Peggy Fleming King, of the home; one 
            daughter, Karen King and husband, Kenneth Horn; one son, William 
            Hagan King, all of Kingsport; three sisters, Betty Mitchell, 
            Bedford, Ind., Margaret Selby, Kingsport and Patsy Norwood, 
            Hendersonville, N.C.; one brother, Tom King and his wife, Wilma, 
            Kingsport; two grandchildren, Hagan Horn and Shauna King, both of 
            Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

            Home, Kingsport. 
            Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Don McCann officiating.

            George T. Lawson, 83, Limestone.

            LIMESTONE - George T. Lawson Sr., 83, 351 Cherry Hill Road, died at 
            5 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center after 
            a brief illness. 
            A son of the late Coy Lee and Emma Kidd Lawson, he was born in 
            Pulaski County, Va., and had been a resident of the Cherry Hill 
            community since 1983. Mr. Lawson was a machinist at Pulaski Foundry 
            and Kingsport Foundry, retiring in 1979 due to ill health. 
            He was a member of the Fall Branch Church of Christ. 
            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, 
            Dora V. Lawson (1995) and three sisters, Louise Duncan, Emma Lawson 
            and Park Collins. 
            Surviving are a daughter, Ann Moore and husband, Terry, Cherry Hill 
            community; two sons, George T. (G.T.) Lawson Jr. and wife, Barbara, 
            Ducktown community, Marvin C. Lawson and wife, Louise, Butchertown 
            community; 11 grandchildren, Billy, Melissa, Dorena, Rhonda, 
            Samantha, Brian, Sherry, Betty Allison, Jason, Susie and Clint; five 
            great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Kasey, Joana, Aron and Del; two 
            brothers, Billy Lawson and Charles Graham Lawson, both of Pulaski, 
            Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

            Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes and at the home of a 
            daughter, Ann Moore, 353 Cherry Hill Road and the home of his son,

            Nellie Lawson, 82, Rogersville.

            ROGERSVILLE - Nellie Imo Lawson, 82, Heritage Manor Nursing Home, 
            went to be with the Lord Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) at Hawkins County 
            Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. 
            She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Cobbs Chapel 
            Missionary Baptist Church. 
            She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Lizzie Lawson; and 
            a brother, E.J. Lawson. 
            Surviving are two nieces, Lucy Russell, Rogersville and Louise 
            Ferrell, Greeneville; one nephew, Clinton Dorris Lawson, Morristown; 
            a special friend, Betty Goin, Rogersville; several cousins and a 
            host of friends. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral 
            Home, Rogersville. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cobbs Chapel 
            Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Livesay officiating.

            C. Robert McAmis, 71, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Charles Robert McAmis, 71, 406 Castle Oaks Drive, died 
            at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical 
            Center after a brief illness. 
            A lifelong resident of Kingsport, he attended Davidson College and 
            was a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law. 
            Following service as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he practiced 
            law for a number of years in Kingsport and retired due to poor 
            health. 
            Mr. McAmis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. 
            His mother, Vara McAmis preceded him in death. 
            Surviving are his father, Luke M. McAmis Sr., Kingsport; a brother, 
            Luke M. McAmis Jr. and wife, Frances, Kingsport; a niece, Judith M. 
            McAmis, Kingsport; and several cousins living in Kingsport and 
            Greeneville. 
            Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel, 
            downtown. 
            Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the funeral home 
            chapel with the Rev. Gary L.R. Bullard officiating. 
            Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

            Vivian McKamey, 63, Piney Flats.

            PINEY FLATS - Vivian "Polly" McKamey, 63, went to be with her Lord 
            and Savior Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Johnson City Medical Center. 

            A lifelong resident of Piney Flats, she was retired from Mary Hughes 
            School and was a former employee of Summers Hardware. She was a 
            member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church. 
            She was a homemaker, an avid lover of pets and animals. 
            Surviving are her husband, William H. "John" McKamey; mother, Mae 
            Blalock; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and William "Pete" 
            Carrier, all of Piney Flats; and many friends and neighbors. 
            Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Piney Flats United 
            Methodist Church. Friends may call at the home of Mae Blalock, 225 
            Blalock Road, Piney Flats. 
            Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the church with 
            Pastors Jack Stevens, Rocky Maines, Carol Wilson and Virgel Booher 
            officiating.

            James W. Moody Sr., 82, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - James W. Moody Sr., 82, went to be with the Lord on 
            Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2001) after an automobile accident. 
            He was born in Kingsport and lived most of his life in Cooks Valley. 
            He was a member of Kingsport Methodist Church, and was a retired 
            carpenter by trade. 
            James was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Opal Lewis 
            Moody; brothers, Clifton, Clay and Farris Moody; sister, Hazel 
            Moody; parents, Ed and Ollie Dillow Moody; and a 
            great-granddaughter, Summer Quillen. 
               
            Surviving are his brothers, Ray Moody Sr., Bill Moody and J.B. 
            Moody; and by sisters, Louise Williams and Margie Jennings. Mr. 
            Moody is also survived by his six children, James W. Moody Jr., 
            Shirley Krell, E.G. Moody and wife Mary Frances, Linda Christian and 
            husband Phillip, Lewis Moody and wife Nancy, and T. Glen Moody and 
            wife Deb, all of the Kingsport and Bristol areas. He is also 
            survived by 10 grandchildren, T. Suzy Ray, Toni Phelps, Tiffany 
            Hickman, Sara Christian, Kelly Quillen, Leah Burnette, Amy Cornett, 
            Jason Moody, Joshua Moody and Melody Moody; and 10 
            great-grandchildren.

            Charlie Powers, 80, Duffield, Va.

            DUFFIELD, Va. - James Charlie Powers, 80, of the Fairview community, 
            died Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical 
            Center. 
            Born in Scott County, he was a son of the late William and Sara 
            Myrtle Lane Powers and was a retired coal truck operator. 
            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, 
            William J.E. Powers and William Powers Jr. 
            Surviving are sons, Billy Joe Powers, Duffield, Va., and Michael 
            Powers, Knoxville; brothers, James Nathan Powers, Kingsport, Curtis 
            Powers, Weber City, Va., Donald Ray Powers, Limestone, and Jack 
            Powers, Kingsport; sisters, Virginia Lucille Lane, Kingsport, Helen 
            Bernice Cox, Sullivan Gardens, Margie Irene Brown, Columbia Md., 
            Louise Hiscock, Miami, Fla., Joyce Quillen, Clinchport, Va., and 
            Vivian King, Blountville; grandchildren, Troy Powers, Billy Powers 
            and Regina Powers; great-grandchildren, Cody Powers and Calista 
            Powers; and a special friend, Anna Lou Bledsoe. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Duffield Funeral Home at 
            Thomas Village. 
            Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home 
            chapel with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. 
            Burial will be in the Bloomer Cemetery in Fairview. 

            Virgil Slemp, 67, Eustis, Fla.

            EUSTIS, Fla. - Virgil Kyle Slemp, 67, formerly of Lee County, Va., 
            died Thursday (Nov. 15, 2001) in Florida. 
            Born in Lee County, Va., he had been a resident of Dryden and 
            graduated from Dryden High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air 
            Force having served in Korea during the Korean War. 
            He was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church until moving to 
            Florida years ago. 
            He was preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Janie Slemp; 
            brother, Don Slemp; and one sister, Bleeka Sproles. 
            Surviving are his wife, Sandra Michell Slemp, of the home; four 
            daughters, Debbie Lasley and husband, Mike, Donna Utegg and husband, 
            Cherel, Jackie Carval and husband, Darrell and Tammy Myers, all of 
            Eustis, Fla.; two brothers, Justin Hop Slemp and Ivan Keith Slemp, 
            both of Dryden, Va.; and two sisters, Merle Edwards, Duffield, Va., 
            and Marcia J. Barthalomew, Kingsport. 
            Mr. Slemp will be cremated in Florida.

            Dr. J. Harold Smith, Knoxville.

            KNOXVILLE - Dr. J. Harold Smith, went to be with his Lord Tuesday 
            (Nov. 13, 2001) at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. 
            Born in South Carolina in 1910, he was an evangelist, a radio 
            minister, author and pastor of churches in South Carolina, North 
            Carolina, Tennessee and Arkansas. In 1935, he established the Radio 
            Bible Hour Inc., and the "Your Good Neighbor'' publication, 
            headquartered in Newport, Tenn., with a worldwide radio ministry. He 
            was the author of 13 books, with "God's Three Deadlines'' in its 
            18th printing and "Fast Your Way to Health'', which has been 
            translated into 23 languages. 
            During his ministry, more than a million people have made decisions 
            for Christ, with hundreds of commitments to become ministers and 
            missionaries. His work supports missionaries throughout the world. 
            Dr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Myrtice 
            Rhodes Smith; and a son, J. Harold Smith Jr. 
            Surviving are a son, Dr. J. Donald Smith; daughter-in-law, Dr. 
            Maureen Smith; a daughter, Martha Tiller; five grandchildren, Dr. 
            Lance Armstrong of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Dr. Carol Okuda of Charlotte, 
            N.C., Emily, David and Amy Smith of Newport, Tenn.; two 
            great-grandchildren, Michaela and Jonathan Okuda of North Carolina; 
            two sisters, Fran Smith of Newport and Mrs. J. Earle Morgan of 
            Easley, S.C.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of Greenville, 
            S.C.; and Radio Bible Hour staff members, Jerry and Linda Williams, 
            Joanna Romine, Judy Clark and a host of friends. 
            Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the downtown location of 
            Thomas McAfee Funeral Home in Greenville, S.C. 
            Calling hours are from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Brushy Creek Baptist 
            Church in Easley, S.C.

            Pallbearers will be Dr. Lance Armstrong, James Okuda, Jerry

            Interment will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

            Graveside services for Marie Jo Smith, 66, of Kingsport, who died at 
            9:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2001), will be conducted at 11 a.m. 
            today at Oak Hill Cemetery.

            cemetery at 10:50 a.m. today.

            by family graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jay

            JOHNSON CITY - Services for Marian Elaine Watterson, 42, formerly of 
            Kingsport, who departed this life Monday (Nov. 12, 2001), will be

            Mapleoak Lane, Kingsport, with the Rev. Dr. Felix Ofosu officiating.

            Margaret Wimberly, 90, Kingsport.

            KINGSPORT - Margaret Nelms Wimberly, 90, of Crescent Drive, died 
            Wednesday (Nov. 14, 2001) at Asbury Center at Baysmont Health 
            Center. 
            She was a member of an area pioneer family and the daughter of the 
            late James Edward Nelms and Nora Crum Nelms. 
            Born on Nov. 10, 1911 in what is present day Kingsport, she always 
            lived in sight of Bays Mountain. 
            She attended Hollins College and graduated from Duke University in 
            1933. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and acted with 
            the Carolina Playmakers. Mrs. Wimberly was a founding member of the 
            Kingsport Little Theatre and the Kingsport Junior League. 
            She was a lifelong member of First Broad Street United Methodist 
            Church and co-authored a history of that church and its beginnings. 
            For years she carried on a correspondence with William F. Buckley, 
            Walter Cronkite, the local newspaper and her family. 
            Mrs. Wimberly used her sense of humor, her gifts of expression and 
            her wit to bring laughter to those who knew her. 
            She was predeceased by a sister, Frances Nelms Koffman; and a 
            brother, Hugh Edward Nelms. 
            Surviving are her husband, John D. Wimberly, Kingsport; daughters, 
            Jane Apffel, New Orleans, La., Tish Wimberly-Tate and Judy Dorminey, 
            of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, John Dorminey, Katherine 
            Dorminey, Neil Apffel, Edward Apffel, Andrew Tate, and Sarah 
            Dorminey; three great-grandchildren; two nieces, Ann Morison and 
            Nancy Garrett; and nephew, Kim Koffman. 
            Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. today at First Broad Street 
            United Methodist Church. 
            Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the church with Rev. 
            Jack Edwards officiating. 
            Burial will be Oak Hill Cemetery.
